“Red Lion Hotel and Holiday Inn Whittlesford”

We recently had an extended stay at the Red Lion Hotel and Holiday Inn in Whittlesford. All the staff were extremely helpful and courteous and more than willing to help make our stay as comfortable as possible. The food in the Red Lion restaurant was excellent, and the team always made you feel welcome. Would recommend but a room away from the railway side of the station is certainly preferable for families.

Room Tip: Request a room from the railway station side of the hotel. Although there was minimal noise.

Where do I start.....this was an awful experience that spoilt our Chrismas Day. There was no welcome, prosecco took 20 minutes to arrive, no atmosphere, no decorations except a small tree in the corner, no table cloth or table decorations. The starter was average, the main course was the worst roast dinner that I have ever had, just a very basic roast and not you would expect for Christmas Day. No extra sauces like bread sauce. Dessert tasted 'bought' rather than homemade, and wasn't as described. Petit fours were 2 ''bought' mince pies, 2 little profiteroles (where were nice) and a brownie that wasn't edible, not even an even number of items for 3 of us. The staff were unfriendly and just wanted to get home, they were tidying up and clattering dishes and glasses around us.My 8 year old was very upset as it didn't feel at all Christmassy and my parter and I were disgusted. We had paid in advance and therefore the staff had no interest in checking all was ok, and didn't even say goof bye and merry Christmas as they were too busy getting their bits together and 2 of them (a man in a suit and a waiter) walked out closely behind us (we were last customers to leave) and without a word to us walked past and drove out of the car park in a rush.
All together a bad experience on what is supposed to be a special day.

Awful bar/restaurant staff. Rude, non attentive & just over all rubbish!!! From the moment we walked in it was if we were an inconvenience!

Food on the other hand is very good!

Sadly I wont be recommending this place or going again down to the very poor service from the bar / restaurant staff!

This is a well run hotel with helpful and friendly staff. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The restaurant was cosy with low ceilings and beams. If however you have room 12 be prepared for lots of stairs and no lift. The station is close by and a train journey to Cambridge takes only 10 mins.

Our wedding reception was held here on the 30th November 2013 and it was perfect. We had 69 Guests 14 of which were young children and we still had loads of room to move about. We opted for the buffet over a sit down meal and the choice of food was fantastic. All the guests commented on how nice the food was and also how relaxed the environment was.

The staff were on hand 24/7 to cater to the needs of everyone at the reception. They cleared away the plates and drinks so quietly and efficiently that you didnt even realise they were there. Yet when you needed assistance they made themselves noticeable in order to service your needs.

Our wedding was arranged with a months notice and the staff went above and beyond to give us our special day. Laura was always on hand to offer advice and assistance and i can honestly say that no where would of matched the high standard of service that we received at the Red Lion in Whittlesford.

Amazing Restaurant run by amazing staff!

We just hosted a meeting at the Red Lion, Whittlesfordbridge. Couldn't speak more highly of the venue, staff and hospitality. Fantastic function space. Front of house staff (Laura, Yan, Natasha and Beth) were so so helpful and tended to our every need throughout the day. Wouldn't look further for a venue on the future.

We stayed here fri and sat and attended a wedding here. The staff was brilliant, really friendly, put themselves out for you and proved that nothing was to much trouble for them. I was here with my family and even the youngest was very well catered for. The food was excellent, and although I suffer from allegies etc all of this was taken into account and catered for. I would recommend this hotelit was a real pleasure to be here and I will be going back.
