We are a large organisation and had not previously used this venue before. I must say I have been VERY impressed with the Red Lion. They have been very helpful throughout the booking and organisation of our big event. They were very helpful on the day and the food is AMAZING. Very friendly staff, no-fuss and professional. Definitely something to recommend. Great value for money!! Well done to all of you.

I have stayed at The Red Lion on a weekly basis for over two years. Initially when my work began I struggled to find anywhere in the area where I would want to stay let alone return. Then I discovered a complete oasis, with character, comfort and exceptional service. And a very reasonable tariff. I have travelled nationally for business for over ten years. The Red Lion offers something very different and special. You are a person not simply a guest and service is 100% genuine. The decor is Hotel du Vin-ish which i like. The rooms are immaculate.
You see over time the constant attention to be even better. Yes, a quirky building brings some smaller rooms but there is a range. The food is excellent.

I stayed through the pregnancy of my son. They were attentive and so caring.

I will really miss staying and I have never felt this way about being away from home. We will definitely stay as a family and visit Duxford.

I can't recommend more highly!!!

Stayed here for one night recently, OK the pub is very old and quirky but the rooms are very # very small and not cheap
The room was very hot, tried it with the window open and then all you can hear is trains, eventually got to sleep to be woken at 04.45 by the refuse lorry (i think) emptying the bins
Not a good experience for the money, overpriced for the size of the rooms, the sink was that small when cleaning my teeth the water was splashing over the edge as you could not lean over the sink
Food good but not cheap as £8.75 for a prawn cocktail
Would not stay here again if i had a choice, better across the car park in the Holiday Inn Express

Room Tip: Not sure ?

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for your feedback.

Firstly, please let me apologise for the issues you faced.

The rooms are very quirky however we know that some travellers might not think the same as we do. The building dating back to the twelfth century has its draw backs and one of those is heat however we do have ample fans and rooms that face away from the train tracks ensuring a restful night’s sleep for those customers who are light sleepers.

I was pleased you enjoyed the food. All ingredients are locally sourced so we give customers a taste of Cambridgeshire.

It is disappointing to read you will not return, we can absolutely accommodate all your needs and if you do want a return, contact me please and I will ensure you get a fantastic value for money stay.

Thank you for your custom.

Kind Regards

We stayed here for one night after spending the day at the 70th Anniversary of D-Day Air Display at Duxford (only a mile or so away).
There was some confusion about our booking (with booking.com) but the manager soon sorted it out and we were given the keys to Room 26.
Be aware that there are some very low beams (well signed) in the narrow corridors, and in our case this continued into our bedroom. The room which overlooked the Chapel, was quirky, with old wooden beams, a high ceiling, a very low door and had a window that started half way down the wall and went to the floor. It was small and cosy with just enough room to get round to each side of the bed, and there were only pegs for hanging clothes. The shower and toilet room was just big enough. Everything was clean, comfortable, quiet and adequate for purpose.
We enjoyed a drink (real ale) in the characterful bar, then went into the Dining Room for a meal. Although some things on the menu were slightly overpriced, the service was reasonable, staff as attentive as they could be on a busy night and the food was good.
Overall, if you like to pay a bit extra for quirkiness, character and element of surprise, rather than bland sameness, then don't hesitate to stay here. We would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Room 26 - quirky, small but adequate. Overlooked the chapel and was quiet and comfortable.

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for your constructive feedback.

I was pleased that on the whole you enjoyed your experience in our hotel.

Our rooms are very quirky which fits in well with the character the Red Lion has throughout the building.

It was a very busy weekend however we did have many staff to ensure we catered for everyone’s needs. I apologise if the service was a little slow as it should not have been.

We are pleased to read you will return and we hope to welcome you back in the near future.

Kind Regards

We used the venue for a charity conference and overall got good service, and value for money. As I work for a charity we do need to find good value venues but still maintain a standard that shows we care for our guests and this did happen.

Staff were attentive and professional, food was good but just a note that the conference buffet doesn't include any desserts and we thought it might - so got a few grumbles over that. But next time we will be sure to include something sweet.

The venue is attractive, well presented and has a lovely outside area which opens up from the conference area so lovely for guests to have their in the sunshine (obviously weather permitting)

Would I use it again - yes of course it was perfect and is next to a railway station and conveniently placed near the M11. Perfect!

We stayed at The Red Lion overnight while attending the 19th Annual meeting of The Old Dux Association for men or women who had served at RAF Duxford until 1961 when it was closed as an operational station and opened as The RAF International Air Museum.
We were full of expectation to have a really good reunion which included the Saturday night celebration dinner which was excellent. The restaurant surpassed itself with first quality service and a delicious meal for our very large party of around 60 diners. We were particularly impressed with Jan when checking in for our overnight stay. He was very efficient and charming. Our room was extremely comfortable and quiet, considering it faced the railway station. In the morning we enjoyed a delicious cooked breakfast. We would definitely enjoy another stay in the future.
