“Pleasant Family Run Hotel with Pool near Beach”
Reviewed 17 April 2005

Enjoyed my stay here as a solitary businessman and may well come back en famille. The bed and room was comfortable and the staff were all polite and friendly. Food was well cooked, very substantial (you're unlikely to make it to the desert) in the home cooking style (and none the worse for that).
Pool was quiet and clean when I went - there is also a gym which looked good but I forgot to bring trainers.
Bar is pleasant and frequented by locals who are happy to engage in intelligent conversation.
Easyish walk round the coast and back over hill (take a stick and wear stout boots as it's wet and slippery at times). Was told it's also possible to walk upstream towards village but didn't find time for that.

This is a fantastic hotel. If you are looking for peace and quiet it is just the place to go. Situated in a very quiet location, with some outstanding views it has excellent rooms and food to match. We only spent a weekend there, but will definately return soon.

Highly recommended.

Even though it's a 20 minute drive from Camarthen, where the client site is, I've stayed at the Three Rivers twice so far.The hotel is a bit daunting to find, given that it is located in a residential area of Ferryside. Of course, the advantage is that it's pretty quiet - i.e. no traffic (and I mean none). The picture supplied is not a one-off room. You can expect a similar standard is most rooms (ok, I've only seen three so far, and the four poster is not standard :-). I can totally recommend rooms 25, 26 & probably 27. They all face the river and have exposed beams and balconies, like in the picture -- v. nice. Try to avoid the room by the aircon vent above the kitchen if you have sensitive ears. Having said that, everything's double-glazed, so it's not actually a problem at all. I was there with a light sleeper, and there were no problems. The double beds are HUGE and all the furniture & decor is well coordinated and tasteful. The TV's are a bit on the small side, but with a bar that's been open every time I checked and a restaurant with OUTSTANDING food, who cares? The bathrooms have a good sized bath a very good shower, fancy loo with two buttons to conserve water (small button for small business and big button for the other one). They are tastefully tiled top to bottom, and there's a drainage hole in the centre of the floor, just in case one goes overboard with the splashing. The bar is quaint, with a fishtank and pretend rock on the walls. Sounds worse than it actually is. It actually feels pretty cozy and nice. The locals are friendly and the staff very pleasant. Careful though -- they can't stand seeing an empty glass :-). The restaurant seats about fifty and has a massive fireplace (I don't know the proper word for it. You can see through it, basically). The food is mmmmyummy. I would recommend the mushrooms for starter (watch the garlic) and a small steak. I think the kitchen scales are broken, because the steaks end up larger on the plate than on the menu. Oh -- and very tasty too. A ?10 set menu WILL fill you up, even if you had nothing for lunch. There's also skittles and pool, but that room needs some work.Oh -- there's also a health spa on-site. I haven't checked it out yet, but it looks pretty neat. There's definitely a small/medium pool, a circular jacuzzi-like looking affair, and I heard talk of a sauna. There are also exercise bikes, and a variety of new looking exercise contraptions. Like I said -- haven't checked them out yet, but if the rest of the hotel is to be taken as the standard, you can't go much wrong with it.The place has only two points which stop it from being excellent: 1) there's a small mobile house park in the grounds (about 30 properties), which will probably make a noisy neighbour in mid-season 2) just beyond the caravans there's a trainline. I only heard two trains during my stay there, so it didn't bother me at all -- I just had to draw the curtains before I ran naked around the room ;-)If you look over these two small dents in an otherwise impecable place, you get to enjoy views over the (insert river name here) estuary, and (insert castle name here) on the other bank from your balcony, as you have your room service delivered cofee in the morning.Stay there again? Don't mind if I do!
