Made several visits to the George last year as we own a caravan nearby. Reviewed them then, and now that the season has started again we went back for our Sunday Carvery. The price of the meal has gone up slightly but I have to say this is one of the nicest Sunday lunches you will have. Meat always well cooked, turkey and beef last Sunday, I had a few slices of each. Veg cooked well and more than enough choice. We decided to book our table which this time last year we did not need to do. We noticed it getting busier as the season wore on so thought it wise to book. No spare tables on Sunday, so it looks like they are getting a bit of a reputation for their carvery. Going again next week.

Room Tip: Not stayed in the hotel but if you want a carvery then you will probably need to book a table a few...

We stayed for one night as I had a job to do in the area the following day. We were warmly welcomed, fed a good meal, (My steak was perfectly cooked) and enjoyed a drink in the bar with friendly chatty locals.

The setting is gorgeous! I woke in the morning to a view of beautiful snow capped mountains and a Red Kite circling outside my window - Utterly idyllic.

Thanks you Karen & Rob for making us feel so welcome.

We stayed here for a winter weekend in the country. Very friendly welcome and a loverly location. The bar with open fire is very pleasant. The bedroom though was very ordinary. 1970s decoration and the ensuite was tiny with a trickle of water in the shower. It was clean. The food was ok but nothing special.
This is a place in desperate need of some loving care and attention. The gutters need cleaning to stop the constant drip on the flat roof of the restaurant and it needs to be dragged into the twenty first century.

The hotel is easy to find being on the main A44 with plenty of parking As you enter the hotel the decor looks a little tired and old fashioned but the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was ensuite but was let down by the shower room which was a little substandard. It was spoiled by the condensation which was responsible for a very wet carpet in the shower room, you needed to keep your shoes on! In fairness the hotel did acknowledge the wet carpet problem and assured me there were plans afoot to deal with it. However, the bedroom was clean and warm and well equipped with tea, coffee, TV etc. I would have given a Very good for the cleanliness but for the shower room. The bar was very pleasant with it's open fire and the food was excellent, both in quality and value for money, indeed when we received our bill I thought at first that we had been undercharged! The location is superb with a very impressive 200ft deep gorge at the rear of the hotel. and the local Red Kite feeding station is well worth a visit. Would I stay again? Of course, in fact I can't wait

Room Tip: Ask for a roomat the rear not over the bar, plus the views are magnificent!

I walked in the door with snow blowing around in the dark outside, to a roaring fire in the bar and a warm welcome by the staff.

My evening meal was simple but well done - excellent home made rhubarb crumble! Good local beer on tap too.

The single room wasn't large but it was comfortable, clean, had a desk, good shower and working wifi (important as I had no mobile signal at all!). Mysteriously there was no wardrobe, but when I asked at reception they were very apologetic and said it had been removed for repair and would be sorted for the next guest.

Breakfast was excellent, served promptly so I could get away to an appointment. Service throughout was very welcoming, and I will definitely return if work takes me to Aberystwyth again (15 minutes drive away)

Stayed here for one night - The service was very haphazard and staff rather ungracious. Felt like we'd wandered into someone's slightly chaotic house by accident.
Room was okay but smelt of cheap fabric conditioner or something similar, and there was only one uncomfortable chair to sit in even though it was a "family room." My husband ordered a latte in the desperately ugly lounge (the central coffee table was graced by a plastic child's toy) and a girl brought him a mug of regular coffee with no saucer which she slopped down beside him unceremoniously. Shower ran luke-warm water; dinner was so-so, with over-cooked cabbage and swede. Certainly wouldn't stay here again.
