“Always great...but the cafe girls are terrible”
Review of Lyme Park

Great place in so many ways, so why allow the sulky and curt teenage cafe staff to undermine the experience? Employ better staff, the food and drink prices should allow for a more professional team. Shame.

We are NT members and live fairly locally, so we go here quite a lot. The grounds are fantastic for dog walking and walking with children etc. The children's play area is one if the best in the area and is always very busy! We have been into the house and gardens many times and you can go at your own pace, see what you want to see etc. We occasionally go to the cafe near the lake/play area, but it is usually very busy with HUGE queues and it is not cheap! It is only used as a treat occasionally! For a quick coffee or ice cream go to the small kiosk just off the main car park, this is usually quicker! Overall we love Lyme Park, it is worth a visit.

Fantastic place to visit. The house was huge with lots of rooms accessable. The staff were all warm, welcoming and very knowledgable. Eveyone gets the option to dress up in the Edwardian clothes to walk around the house in which is a great idea - really sets the scene and throws your imagination back to how it would have been in the day. The grounds were huge and well maintained. Lovely gardens. Lots of different walks to choose from. We'll need a second visit to see what we missed. The kids play area was absolutley fantastic - lots to keep the kids entertained. Fully recommend.

The food at Lyme Park lets down the total experience. I feel that they could cater better for the 8 to 13 years by having simple egg sandwiches and cheese one.s also. Apart from this the children enjoyed the grounds. And play area.

There was so much to see in this property. One of the guides said a huge amount of money had been spent on it and you can tell, in a good way. There are so many pictures, architectural pieces, tapestries etc. to see and the house so large that we were there for hours and still rushed the last bit.

Not being able to take any photos in the house, not even without a flash, was a big shame and some may not like the "Mr Darcy" figure in the lake (I quite liked it's quirkiness and it is being removed Feb 2014) but these were minor inconveniences. Talking of conveniences, there were no toilets as you went around the house, only by the restaurant off the main courtyard. This was an issue as you are directed around the house in a set direction so you had to go to the end to get to them and then if you missed anything you had to go through the parts you had already seen to get back again.

Most guides were not forward in providing info which was a shame as there was so much to see.

The restaurant and tea rooms did not have much in the way of gluten free food (jacket potatoes) and the knowledge of the staff was a big worry. Despite my asking specifically about gluten-free food they still put a gluten-full dressing on my salad and it is only because I was suspicious and asked them when it was brought to the table that they checked and found out it was not suitable. They changed it without a fuss for a fresh salad but be careful!!!

The gardens were nice though maybe not worth the extra money to go around unless you specifically want to see the "Pemberley" lake, which I did :)

Overall, a great place to visit!
