Whilst on a long walk in the area the village of Dockray was just off our route, with the OS map promising a pub in the village our weary legs found us at the Royal Hotel. Two pints of draught cider were absolutely what the doctor ordered and were dispatched quickly, however I must mention the friendly welcome even at 3pm on a weekday, and that the lady behind the bar who I am assuming is the landlady was more than happy to refill my water bottle and to provide a drink for my German Shepherd.
With this visit in mind we decided to call in a day later (by car this time!) for a light lunch. Again a friendly welcome. I ordered a chicken and bacon sandwich with the soup of the day, my girlfriend a summer salad.
Both meals were clearly prepared freshly and were both very nice, the prices were typical of the area but we both felt more than happy with our lunch for the price paid.
