“Basic but clean and comfortable”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 October 2011

We stayed for one night on a short trip to visit Harwick Hall (4 junctions further north). Nice clean room, nothing exciting but everything we needed and a good value breakfast the next morning. Only one issue - we arrived at 5pm on a very cold afternoon and the room, which had 2 outside walls, was freezing. We called reception who said they'd send someone to look at the heating but half an hour later had to call and ask what was happening at which point we were offered an electric heater which warmed up the room. No-one appeared to look at the heating but it mysteriously sorted itself out at 8pm - heating appeared to be controlled centrally - a cost cut too far, at the end of october guests need to be able to be as warm as they want!!

Excellent hotel for an overnight stay, rooms clean, spacious and very comfortable bed. Breakfast is worth the money for good choice of food and all very fresh. Staff are courteous and helpful. A sign of the quality of service is how things are resolved when they go wrong, they get corrected quickly and efficiently

We were nervous when we first saw the hotel Crossroads Motel sprung to mind (if you are not old enough to remember it, google it). However when inside we didn't see a Benny or Miss Diane! The receptionist was friendly and it just took a couple of minutes to check us in. We had booked a triple room however it was only set up for two people. A pleasant chap who was a barman and waiter came in and made the bed up and brought extra towels. The food was ok but expensive for what it was and because there were only 3 staff working the bar and the restaurant we had a long wait between courses. Breakfast was good. Overall the room was very comfortable (lovely bed) and it was a quiet hotel and we would stay again.

Stayed here for one night whilst visiting alton towers with my husband and son and i can say that i couldnt find fault with this hotel it is the first holiday inn we have ever stayed at and would recommend it to anyone. The staff were friendly the room was great the food good ( evening menu not huge but enough choice if staying for a short time).Yes it does look a bit like a 70s bulit school from the outside but dont let that put you off.We will def use again.

We stayed here for 1 night after a day out at Alton Towers, hotel was clean and comfortable. We were quickly checked in and staff were friendly. We had a family room which was really nice, had flat screen TV, air con and room service was available, although we didn't order any. Breakfast was good with lots of choice, my kids really enjoyed the breakfast also! Would stay here again if ever going to Alton Towers.

This hotel is really convenient for the M1, being just a couple of minutes from J25. We decided to stop there for lunch on midday as a much better alternative to motorway services. When we pulled into the car park, it was almost empty. We went into the hotel and reception was completely deserted, so we walked through the bar (also deserted) into the restaurant. There was no sign of life in there either. After waiting at reception for about 10 minutes, a member of staff appeared who had to go away to find out if the restaurant was opening. She came back to tell us that the restaurant was shut that day because a wedding party was coming. For us, this was simply a nuisance, but if i'd been a guest at the hotel I would have been dismayed to find that a large hotel couldn't cope with a wedding party and its everyday customers. It's also the first major hotel I've ever been into that seemed so dead.

Thank you for your valuable feedback. The comments you have given are not indicative of the usual high level of service we provide and unfortunately you appear to have been given incorrect information. We would like to apologise for this and the matter is being investigated by our Reception Manager. We have a varied Bar menu available all day and our Restaurant is open every evening. Thank you once again for taking the time to leave your review.
