Stayed here for one night,as we were attending a wedding locally. I cannot understand anyone who moans about this beautiful b&b! The hosts jenny and Kevin were lovely, and our room was light, airy, modern and very clean with a lovely view over the surrounding countryside. We had the best night sleep we've had in a very long time! Breakfast was plentiful and just what we needed after our knees up the night before! We left this little bit of heaven feeling so relaxed, and we will definatley return and maybe bring our walking boots with us! The Howard's xx

Great b&b welcoming hosts and within walking distance of the bulls head & if you feel fit the barrel up on the hill overlooking foolow. Kevin was a mine of info on local walks the first path even within yards of the cottage.

We stayed overnight planning to walk both days. The accommodation is about 10 mins walk in to the village, most of which is on a pavement. Part way along the road is a lay-by which was ideal to park the car while we walked. The pub in the village is very welcoming and serves good food all day. A choice of real ale and a wine list. Worth booking to guarantee a table.
Our room was spotless and functional with a great sky light providing loads of light. The ensuite has been added to the room and is small and separated by a couple of pine closed louvre doors. There was some noise from neighbouring rooms but never an issue. Only 4 rooms. Breakfast was a treat and shared at a dining table for 8. Met some interesting people all with stories to tell and plans for the day.
Plenty of walks in the area and relatively quiet away from the popular spots. I recommend walking via Bretton and stooping off at the pub for lunch. Wonderful views at Derbyshires highest pub not to mention the great food and beer.

Pleasant remote rural setting, with good views and quiet. Walks from the doorstep across open fields. Pretty garden. Friendly hosts.
Excellent plentiful breakfast freshly cooked to order and lots of tea/coffee (and in bedroom).
We had a family room with large double bed and 2 twins next door and small shower room/toilet which was fine for us but not plush (tiled floor and small old style TV) - BUT
not expected for the price paid.
Very good pub at Bull's Head in Foolow 10 mins walk away along quiet unlit road.

This lovely B&B is located bang on the A623, so is dead convenient and easy to find, but surprisingly we could not hear any traffic at all from our room, and opening the curtains each morning to reveal a view over the pretty garden and the rolling fields and hills beyond was a total pleasure.

There are a few comments on here about rooms and bathrooms being a little small - our room was indeed compact, but if you want luxury, go and find a posh hotel in Sheffield. At the end of the day, the sort of people who will stay in Houseley are people who are in the area to enjoy the great outdoors, so their main requirements are a comfy bed, a shower and a good breakfast and this place definitely ticks all those boxes 101%. Give me somewhere like Houseley over a chain hotel any day of the week!

Kevin & Jennie are lovely hosts. Being a man after my own heart (real ale!!!) Kevin can give you details of nearly 20 pubs (yes 20!) within a 5 mile radius of the B&B and which can be encompassed in various walks which he will recommend (there are a couple of laminated maps you can borrow if you need them). Cost-wise, as seasoned B&B-ers, my wife and I agreed we had not stayed in such a good B&B for such a reasonable price for a long while, and to be honest, we were surprised they don't charge perhaps £10 pppn more than they do.

In terms of location, it feels remote, but at the same time there are 2 excellent and very different (up to you to discover why!!) pubs within 10 mins walk and Baslow and Bakewell are a short drive way.

If taking a break in the Peak Disctrict in future, would highly recommend.

A nice little B&B very well situated close to some beautiful countryside. Views from the cottages were lovely. However the rooms are very small and a bit dated. The bathrooms are tiny. The breakfast was okay, but not exceptional. The guests have the use of a little lounge which is good. The hosts were very helpful and there were local OS maps and guide books to help you plan your activities.
