“Great Stay”
Reviewed 10 March 2014

My Mrs. bought a Wowcher deal for us to stay here for really cheap, we were looking for a nice hotel to stay in and this place came up and had some good reviews so we went for it.

The hotel itself looks really nice from the outside, and the reception area is very welcoming. The general theme of the hotel is evidently wine, as there are quite "Artsy" pictures of it all over the place.

The receptionist was nice and directed us to our room and explained what facilities there were and food times etc. The room was a little small but had a nice big bed and plasma TV on the wall. It also had all the usual stuff you'd expect such as kettle, iron, etc. It also boasts free wifi everywhere on site which was pretty good.

It's got some good views of the humber bridge and the river which we made use of by walking out across the fields behind the hotel which was full of little rabbits and getting some good photos.

The breakfast in the morning was really good, it was a help-yourself-full-english, all of which was delicious. The one thing i would say is mind the plates, as for some reason they are/were kept under a heat lamp and were hotter than the centre of the sun (not literally but you know what i mean). Definitely a health and safety issue there i reckon.

We didn't really explore the area so can't say much for it's surroundings or what's on offer there, but all in all we really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend it to others.

I booked afternoon tea for a treat for me and my friends for my birthday. We had a lovely afternoon. The setting and view of the river is lovely. The afternoon tea was plentiful and we could not even finish it. With coffee and bubbly for £10 it was well worth the money. To be picky the sandwiches were a bit dry and so was the fruit cake and service was a bit slow, however. staff were very pleasant and thought overall it was very good value and would visit again.

My friends and I decided to take advantage of the recent groupon offer for afternoon tea as it was my friend's birthday. It also entitled us to be able to use the facilities for the day as well as booking beauty/spa treatments, which we did. When we arrived we were told there had been a mix up with appointments and whilst the booking stated the correct 50 min manicures in the diary, the person who booked us in only allocated 30 mins each treatment not 50. We decided to send the birthday girl in for her manicure, leaving my friend without a treatment as they were fully booked. When we expressed our disappointment, we were asked to wait in the relaxation room and a member of staff would join us to discuss the matter/solution. Nobody came, even after approaching reception for the second time. We weren't shown any facilities, offered gowns or slippers, just left waiting for over an hour. When it was time for our afternoon tea, the waitress informed us we had an option of a hot beverage or a glass of fizz but the terms stated both, so we were asked to take our phone showing the groupon to the reception desk to show them so we didn't have to pay for our pots of tea.

A member of staff did come and speak to us finally and took my friends number but we were ready to leave by then. It was a complete waste of time and terrible customer service, especially after witnessing the service that other parties then received.

We have since received an offer of a free 30 min treatment each (not on a Saturday) but we don't live I'm the hull area - one being Manchester so is useless.

I won't be recommending the front of house service at this hotel or be planning to visit again any time soon.

Thank you for your valuable feedback; which my Team and I are naturally disappointed to receive.

I believe that I have personally spoken to another member of your party already; and your concerns have been addressed further.

On behalf of the Team, I sincerely apologise further for your disappointment on the day. We are currently investing further in our booking system; which should avoid any future errors on treatment times.

I do hope that you will provide the Hallmark with the opportunity to deliver a successful Pamper Day for you and your party in the future.

Kind Regards,

Serena

Clean rooms with comfy bed.

Friendly staff.

Good value for money.

I enjoyed the dinner at the hotel and it was reasonably priced with friendly service.

I would stay here again and recommend it for an overnight business stop probably rather than a couples retreat!

had a groupon deal cost £12 for 2 would just like to say it was for a sandwich lunch with a glass of bubbly and a complimentary tea/coffee. we were served by a courteous young man a fabulous choice of different sandwiches and more than you could ever expect to eat cakes very yummy an absolute treat for the price was lovely to sit in very nice calm surrounds and have Me time. In the groupon deal we had the choice to use the facilities too, this was a disappointment, they only have a very small dry sauna, no swimming pool or jaccuzi also the changing rooms the showers poured out water instead of a nice flow and the floor tiles was treacherously slippery when wet, don't get us wrong it was still a good deal we just letting anyone else know in case they expect to find as we did more facilities in such a big Hotel

Thank you for your valuable feedback, following your recent visit to the Hallmark Hotel.

I am delighted that you were impressed with our extensive Afternoon Tea, and our courteous Team member.

We are very careful on how our leisure facilities (Gym, Sauna, Jogging Track, Relaxation Suite) are advertised; and apologies that we currently are not able to offer wet-side facilities.

I do hope that you will visit the Hallmark Hotel once again; given the favourable report on our Afternoon Teas and experience.

We didn't stay in the hotel, we only booked a meal for two one evening. This is a smart looking place and the restaurant location overlooks the Humber bridge which looked atmospheric in the evening. Sitting right by the window was a bit draughty though! The meals left a little to be desired for the price. The seafood brochette was OK, but the salad Niçoise had too many olives in and together with the anchovies made it all a bit too salty overall. Maybe I was expecting too much, but for nineteen quid, the steak was a bit too gristly for me and the side salad with the fridge cold tasteless cherry tomatoes didn't make for enjoyable eating.
