What a find! We came across this pub by accident but were not disappointed. We found a nice table and were quickly served with good local cider and excellent quality wine. As we had stumbled upon the pub on a Sunday it only seemed right to try their traditional roast dinner - which at £8.95 seemed good value for money. We couldn't have picked a better choice. A fantastic plate full of succulent lamb, expertly roasted potatoes, fresh local veg and a generous splashing of rich gravy gave us all we needed for the best roast ever. Having spoken to the chef he assured us that all his meat and veg is sourced locally, helping to support other local businesses, along with his home grown veggies. And you can certainly taste the freshness. To be sure that we hadn't just got lucky we visited the pub a few weeks later and were greeted with a warm welcome and tasty food once again. We now visit on a regular basis and have had many different meals, all equally well-prepared and served generously. The premises may not be up there with the most luxurious of restaurants but the warm welcome, fantastic food and brilliant value for money more than make up for it. The Bird in Hand is definitely worth a visit but be warned you will want to keep going back!
