What a find! We came across this pub by accident but were not disappointed. We found a nice table and were quickly served with good local cider and excellent quality wine. As we had stumbled upon the pub on a Sunday it only seemed right to try their traditional roast dinner - which at £8.95 seemed good value for money. We couldn't have picked a better choice. A fantastic plate full of succulent lamb, expertly roasted potatoes, fresh local veg and a generous splashing of rich gravy gave us all we needed for the best roast ever. Having spoken to the chef he assured us that all his meat and veg is sourced locally, helping to support other local businesses, along with his home grown veggies. And you can certainly taste the freshness. To be sure that we hadn't just got lucky we visited the pub a few weeks later and were greeted with a warm welcome and tasty food once again. We now visit on a regular basis and have had many different meals, all equally well-prepared and served generously. The premises may not be up there with the most luxurious of restaurants but the warm welcome, fantastic food and brilliant value for money more than make up for it. The Bird in Hand is definitely worth a visit but be warned you will want to keep going back!

I visited the bird in hand today for lunch after looking at the well presented menu board i decided to opt the ceaser salad whilst my partner chose the ribeye steak.
After a 10/15 minute wait are food arrived by a lovely young lady who was very polite and made us feel very welcome.
The food did not differ from the service.

I would happily recommend this place to my friends and family

I rang up to check the restaurant opening times and my first impression of the place was that they didn't seem to want our custom, they seemed to be trying to put us off from visiting by saying that although technically they had space, they expect bookings to be made "AT LEAST 24 hours in advance...."

We arrived at the restaurant and found the restaurant itself to be pretty grotty but we decided to give it a go as we prefer to support local business when we can. The menu was extremely limited and had no vegetarian options at all on the menu for the vegetarian in our group.

Despite being the only table in the restaurant we waited nearly an hour for our food. We wouldn't have minded if the food that was delivered was fresh, but the food that arrived tasted like stale, packet food- so we definitely couldn't understand the wait. I ordered the caesar salad which I didn't finish (I forced down about half) as the chicken tasted dry and stale and the only "salad" in it was a very fishy-tasting lettuce. My sister found a hair in her food so didn't finish her food either, and on finishing her coke, we spotted a bright pink lipstick stains on her glass from the person before.

The food wasn't great but the service was even worse. The lady behind the bar gave off the impression that she didn't actually want any customers, and there was a tense, hostile atmosphere throughout which is very noticeable as we the room is so small with the bar.

Upon arriving home we realised that we had actually been overcharged by £4 on our bill which we hadn't noticed at the time as one member of our group had settled up for everyone. The food was extremely overpriced considering the poor quality of the food anyway.

Would not recommend a visit, left hungry and annoyed.

We went to this establishment because we had tastecards. We rang ahead to book and staff we rude telling us we should have booked at least 24hrs in advance. Service when we arrived was indifferent. There were no vegetarian option so we had to ask. When we did we were given one option of vegetable spaghetti. We were then charged £9.85 for this. It was the most expensive out of all the meals despite having less half the ingredients! The pub was cold. We waited almost an hour for the food despite being the only customers for about 45 minutes of our wait. None of the food was that great but the cod and chips were ok. Caeser salad too fishy and the veggie spaghetti was just spaghetti and tomato sauce. The glass had lipstick marks on it. To top it all we were then over charged for the meal but didnt do the maths until we got home so it was too late to do anything about it. Will not be going back.
