“Paesano Restaurant....superb food, friendly service and a wonderful decor!”
Reviewed 25 February 2009

We decided to give this new hotel a go as we live reasonably local. We weren't disappointed, the conversion from cottage hospital to boutique hotel is stunning with original "art-deco" features complemented by modern fittings, the chandelliers throughout are eye catching. We were shown around the hotel by one of the receptionists who really sold the place to us,we saw several rooms and must say that they are finished to a very high standard.Though we weren't staying on this visit we did however dine in the restaurant and are so glad we did.The service was attentive without making you feel obliged to hurry up to the next course,as so many other places seem to make you feel.We both had Dublin Lawer Mussels to start, these arrived in a big steaming bowlful with a lovely rich creamy sauce. For mains we again stuck with fish my partner choosing Darne of Salmon which was served grilled to perfection. I plumped for the Fish Pie and was glad I did, topped with a light fluffy mash the pie contained plenty of Salmon,Cod and smoked Haddock all bound in a rich sauce, lots of flavour and I would recommend it to anyone eating here. For desserts we both chose Apple Crumble served with home made nutmeg ice cream, needless to say this also surpassed our expectations in it's presentation......Well done Paesano.....We'll be back...and this time we'll bring friends.

Like noswals I also attended the wedding and stayed two nights. On arrival I discovered that the hotel had recently opened and was somewhat chaotic with missing wardrobes, paint work not finished and electrical faults on the lights in my room. It was evident that the management had not checked out the bedrooms as the towels were also missing from my bathroom.

A number of cars, mine included, were vandalised overnight and it turned out that the CCTV that was supposedly protecting the car park was also not working. The guests were not made aware of this on arrival. Apart from a free cup of tea from the hotel staff whilst waiting for the police to arrive to take details, the senior management have not shown any interest in the incident, failed to even offer an apology and take the attitude that it is simply not their problem.

  • Liked — Friendly & helpful staff
  • Disliked — Management lack of interest and attitude to an obvious complaint

Went to a wedding reception there and stayed overnight - OK boutique type hotel which had just opened - no wardrobes in the rooms and other missing items.
Next morning woke to find my car and just about every other one in the hotel car park had been vandalised - hotel did not want to know - sorry but not our problem.

Newly opened and not that busy but good to see they are not skimping on staff. Hotel apparently was an old hospital but very nicely done over in an upscale art deco type theme.

Room: Stayed in one of their small baby grand rooms and was very comfortable bed and linens, nice leather chair and ottoman. Room has steam radiators and can get very warm but had individual control to turn lower or off. Desk looked nice but was not good to do any work at as it was too low to sit at with the desk chair. TV was a nice plasma on the wall but only a few channels but the hotel does have a library of DVDs and Playstation games for the unit in the room. Bath was nice size, all marble tile and good shower controls.

Restaurant: Had breakfast each morning as it came with the room and was very good – choice of cold or hot breakfast with good selections. Also had dinner and room service and both were good even though I was the only guest in the dining room.

Staff: All very friendly and attentive calling my by name was a nice touch.

Port Sunlight is a small village that is nice to see and it has a stop on the subway/train into Chester or Liverpool so transportation was very easy.

  • Liked — Port Sunlight location - new hotel hip feel
  • Disliked — Room was a little warm
