The museum is housed in the old girls club in the village. It's on the corner by the lady lever art gallery. It's a small museum with interactive areas for children and a very informative video that lasted for about 20 minutes. We also booked the village tour ( two a day, one at 11.30 and one at 2pm) the gentleman that took us around was obviously very passionate about the village and answered all of our questions. The whole tour was approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes long. Definitely recommend both the museum and tour. If you purchase the tour tickets the museum is included in the price, cost per person was £6.50
Interesting to see how one employer looked after his workforce. Also interesting as parts of the BBC series Peeky Blinders was filmed there.
A Lovely place with a lot of information about the town. You can walk through the town which has all the original houses, a little tea room, a cafe, a museum, memorials, lovely gardens to walk through.
Lovely stop off to spend a few hours we also visited the museum and art gallery for a small fee (museum) and had coffee. Beautiful location and so well preserved.
We began our trip to Port Sunlight at the museum so as to get an insight into the village before we looked around. We were quite early and Lynne the receptionist, very kindly began the film for us straight away so we didn't have to wait around which was much appreciated.
The film was very informative about the thinking behind the model village and the lives of the people who lived and worked in the village and all the amenities provided for them.
There is also a cafe upstairs which I believe you can use without paying to enter the museum. Also there's a shop where you can buy a walking guide to follow round the village, together with information about various properties you will see.
All in all a very friendly welcome and I thought value for money.
We went to port sunlight to try and find out about my great grandfather who was one of the original workers in the early 1900's.
What an amazing place! Very magical. I can't wait to go back for another visit!!
