“Good value, friendly staff, well equipped room but...!”
Reviewed 5 September 2013

Stayed here for convenient locality to a meeting I had starting early the following morning. Large amount of parking, very personal and welcome greeting at check-in (greeting me by name, asking how my day had been etc.) room on third floor was clean and well equipped (trouser press, iron, decent TV, free wi-fi, spa bath, etc.). Ate in the Italian restaurant/wine bar with friendly and polite waiter, got an "early-birds" deal (pizza or pasta for less than a fiver!) all good all round. But!? Main issue was the room was sweltering hot, there was a big ceiling fan and, after working out how to switch it on, set to high was very noisy, opened the windows too but overpowering noise from the outside extractor fans, even with this the room felt like the Sahara desert! Slightly uncomfortable night's sleep but overall ok and would still probably stay again for the £55 inc breakfast that I paid, unfortunately some other pretentious reviewers seem to have confused the perfectly adequate Wellington Park with the Ritz London.

We live nearby and like idiots keep going back every now and again praying it has improved as it is so handy for us.....but it has not.

Gordon Ramsey could not turn this place round. The grotto downsatairs has no atmosphere and the chef would not get a job in Macdonalds for lack of imagination!

Try the new Charnock farm restaurant at the garden centre instead. It is expensive but it employs a proper chef with imagination and has a lovely atmosphere.

I have a phrase I use just for Wellington Park. " I visit it with low expectations and it still manages to disappoint!"

Stayed here for 4 nights whilst delivering a training course commissioned by a local organisation at the hotel.

The accomodation is clean, well furnished and comfortable (the jacuzzi bath was lovely!), and the food was excellent (a little bit more choice with cereals and the option of yogurts at breakfast time would be my only observation). We ate in the italian restaurant each evening and the food was superb.

All of the staff really did go the extra mile throughout the week - I spend much of my work time delivering training and experience many hotels, some good and some much less so. Wellington Park was one of the best we have been to in a long time.

We had a very perfect day, the food and room decoration were excellent and the staff were very helpful. They all did go extra mile. we really appreciate their attention until 1 am the next day. We stayed over in one of the rooms (Bridal Suite) which was very roomy and had an amazing bath and our breakfast was good the next morning. I had perfect organic sausages.

Thanks for all your help in arranging our wedding reception

We tried the olkd restaurant at Wellington Park three times before deciding that the Freemasons could not run such a business. When they relaunched the restaurant as Da Vincis Wine Bar and Restaurant with promises of a new management with requistite skills we thought to try it. Why oh why did we bother!

A couple of months into the relaunch and we went for dinner on a Saturday night. Apart from a very helpful eatern european (?) head waiter, the rest were useless - "I don't normally work in this part." "Do you want me to bring the wine list to you?" Was I supposed to go get it myself?

OK on to the food.

Starters -Stuffed mushrooms with garlic butter and mozzerella - or in reality 5 standard mushrooms covering half the skillet, bone dry stuffing, no garlic butter and what loked liked hard baked hard cheese - awfull. King Prawns - do 3 prawns in a bit of tomato sauce have a value of £7?

Mains - at 7.30pm on a Saturday evening the restaurant had ONE steak in the kitchen. Only two had ordered but then we were advised of the true situation. How must the table of 8 and 16 that followed us have felt? Chicken dish - micro breast with the smallest serving of vegetables I have seen outside of nouvea cuisine.

Desserts - we NEEDED puddings! Oh, three of the four ice creams that you could select for the Trio of Ice Creams were nat available. Sorry, no profiteroles. Just bring the bill!!!

Sorry but Tesco is two minutes down the road - stock up and deliver or lose goodwill and future business.

Staff embarassed about what they are having to manage. Business managed by a Committee of seven directors. I would guess that none of them have any knowledge of the catering business or how to run and manage a restaurant.

Time to close down again...

If you haven't tried the new Wine Bar & restaurant yet I suggest you do. We were pleasantly surprised by the ambience of the Wine Bar it is amazing what they have achieved. The food in the Restaurant was excellent and very good value for the money. We have already been a couple of times and it won't be too long before we go again.

Well done Wellington Park, a place like this was long overdue in Leyland.
