The hotel is located in the magnificent 16th century mansion with the adjoining Preceptory built by Knights Templar around 1231. The building is generally kept in good condition with some maintenance required in places.

The owners, Greene King, really need to make up their mind whether Rothley Court is an upmarket hotel or just a pub with guest rooms attached. At the moment it is neither and as a result suffers from the lack of identity that starts with the untidy-looking and largely unmanned reception, through the striking lounge with oak panelling via typical pub décor of the bar and ends with unimpressive bedrooms. And it is a shame as the place has enormous potential.

We stayed at the Court Mews, the former stables. The multi-level building with clock tower contains modern-looking interior and quite basic rooms. Facilities and décor consistent with the budget chain hotel standards. Entry is via the confusing (especially at night!) punch key lock system.

Dinner was of high quality, Game Pot and Lamb beautifully cooked and tasty. Wine selection quite acceptable.

Breakfast was very basic buffet (no cheeses or meats) but with menu to order included.

Staff are very friendly, enthusiastic and happy working there. Their training reflects the confusing nature of the whole venue.

Room tip: Main house rooms appear better

Recently stayed a night here, some 30 years after I last stayed .The hotel is now part of a chain and has gone downmarket very significantly. We stayed on a Sunday night when the hotel was hosting a wedding which completely dominated the bars and other public areas. The hotel was completely understaffed and at one point there was one staff member trying to serve a bar 3 deep in customers with more customers arriving to attend the wedding evening function. We just gave up in the end. When we mentioned this to other staff we were just told that they couldn't get staff.
The staff did their best but the whole place had an atmosphere of "pile it high and sell it cheap" which was a real shame as this was previously a really good hotel

I had a lovely evening. Nice room, good bar, excellent food and very friendly service. I slept well until.... 6.00 a load of loud (& I mean loud) businessmen decide to turn up for their business breakfast and show no consideration to any guests who might be resting.
I'm sure this isn't typical, but I'd check when I book if I were you...

Stayed here for a wedding, good venue friendly staff and big rooms. Plenty of character in the venue will visit again. One downside is that the English breakfast I had in the morning was disappointing.

Set in the rolling Leicestershire countryside, cows in the meadow, a rushing stream at the foot of the garden and a cricket pitch in sight of the front door, what could be more idyllic and peaceful ?
This 16th Century Wilberforce manor house was first converted into a hotel over 150 years ago -and that shows in a few places; expect creaking stairs and floor boards, uneven floors, and odd shaped rooms - but that all helps give it a lovely character. A welcoming reception, cosy bar and lounge and a pleasant oak panelled dining room all add to the aged charm. Modern terrace furniture overlooks the garden. My room was No9, very spacious with several views of the grounds and good facilities including an excellent bathroom, plus shower cubicle. £70 a night including breakfast !
I didn't eat in the restaurant as we had a private dinner. This was not fine dining but had good choices, was nice food and served promptly. The main dining room menu looked wide and varied and our cooked breakfast was very good, served cheerfully. Overall our party of 16 were very happy and felt it was a good location and venue and surprisingly inexpensive for the quality. Minor grumble was a little tired and worn in places, no lift and some rooms on 2nd floor were a long walk; also some rooms in a separate annex in the grounds which were a little unkempt; otherwise very good. Will use again.
