I heard about the pies here from some colleagues, so I thought that, being a big fan of pies, I should investigate. The pie was decent, as were the veg and mash it was served with, but not good enough to justify the £14 price. Given the prices I was expecting to see lamb and rosemary or venison and cranberry, but neither of those meats featured on the menu.

We went on a Wednesday and it was completely packed, which gives you an idea of how good it was. We had to wait quite a while to get our food as a result, but it was worth it. This pub specialises in pies, and their pies are just heavenly; I had a really delicious haggis pie (!) and my friend's steak pie was also great. You also have a choice of 4 different kinds of mashed potatoes - just heaven! I saw some of the salads and they also looked really good. Go here and don't worry about your diet for the night - the pies will leave you smiling :)

We stopped here for a light supper and were so impressed by this pub. Set in a quiet village it is obviously well attended by locals as well as visitors which is so refreshing these days - so many pubs are closing or turning into eating places with no proper bar.
The lady who served us, we thought was probably the manageress, was very attentive taking time to explain the menu, checking all was OK and serving more drinks when the food arrived. Being a hot day we really only wanted a light salad (which was delicious and interesting though a bit pricey at £13) but would have loved to try the many pies on offer which this pub seemed to excel on. We shall have to go again next time we are in the area.
The interior of the pub was just right with candles and 'old things' such as antique beer taps of old, decorating the area.
Outside there is a large car park and large garden. Again this was well tended with shrubs, flowers and neatly mown lawns with tables well spaced. Great for families.
We were lucky to get a table as they we were told they are usually fully booked but as it was a hot evening many were outside.
We came away saying how nice it was to visit a proper pub that was well run!

We have been twice now - first time with friends - absolutely excellent meal, ambience and staff. Second time with our children - 2 out of 4 meals were excellent, the other two were mediocre in comparison to our first visit. We will come again. The atmosphere and staff are both great.
