“Taking a walk”
Reviewed 23 February 2014

The walk up to the church on the cliff is hard, take water with you as it's draining, The views are out of this world, but don't underestimate the climb

“An hours trek well worth the view”
Reviewed 13 June 2013

My friend and I grabbed the ferry across Lake Como from Bellagio to Cadenabbia, then made the short walk to Griante, and thus started our climb to San Martino. It took about an hour from lakeside to summit for us, but we stopped at each switchback to admire the view. Lots of wildlife was to be seen, from donkeys to mountain goats blocking our path. When you emerge at the little church of San Martino you're given the greatest view of the lake and surrounding landscape. We sat at one of the picnic tables and shared some fruit and snack bars before heading back down the mountainside.

What an outstanding day!

“A worthwhile steep climb!”
Reviewed 25 March 2013

A well marked path that begins behind the Hotel Britannia Excelsior and zig-zags up to this white church perched above Lake Como. Wonderful views!

“Fantastic views, satisfying hike, great spot for a picnic!”
Reviewed 5 November 2012

This is a wonderful shorter hike to do on a clear day with a good camera and some packed goodies. About 45 min. to an hour up from the Cadenabbia/Griante ferry stop (turn right out of the landing area and then take the first left, following signs). The Griante web site has a good description of the walk with photos and a Google Earth map. The last part is mostly uphill and fairly stair- and cobblestone-heavy, but the views are well worth it.
