the terraces from the house down to the waterfall valley are each individual and enticing. the weather was extremely hot the day we went but there was shade to be found among the red woods and cool to be found by the water gardens and the plants were all delightful, the craft centre and garden centre were brilliant for the shopper in the group too so all bases covered

Once we had decided to visit Llandudno again, there was one place I was looking forward to visiting - Bodnant Garden. You can get a local bus from Llandudno and arrive in just less than an hour.

I am in no way a plants and flowers sort of person, nor am I a good judge of large gardens. Bodnant, however, is different. I could have quite happily spent time there every day of the 10 day holiday we spent in Llandudno.

We arrived just after opening at 10:00 in the morning, so the formal gardens were relatively empty. These are all carefully cared for, with nurtured flower beds and bushes, as well as grizzled old trees. Each area seems to evoke it's own ambient tranquillity. There is enough freedom to walk on the lawns and examine small ponds and beds of kaleidoscopic, nay psychedelic, hues and colours. And there are benches everywhere.

Moving from ordered plot to ordered plot, you are gently prepared for the more chaotic and magnificently disordered part of the garden. This was what I remembered best from our last visit. There are winding paths doubling up on themselves, small bridges, endless and fascinating trees and flowers (and flowering trees) as well as little falls gurgling nonchalantly away to themselves in quiet solitude. It's a place of healing, reflection and great solace. And,of course, there are benches, unintrusive and inviting the visitor just to sit and listen.

The size of the gardens (the plural is more apt than the singular) is what gives them that feeling of intimacy and privacy. Bodnant is a place to visit for what it leaves you with, what you take away with you after being given access to its many delights.

Beautiful and lots of interesting places to explore...manicured and formal as well as wilder areas. You could spend quite a bit of time there on a summers day with picnic etc. Lots of great photo opportunities.

The garden are huge, and when we visited in summer are very impressive. It's quite a walk down to the old mill and along the stream and back up.

There are two cafes at the top, and a very small kiosk at the bottom - it would've been nice to have another cafe somewhere in the garden, so eat before you head into the garden!
