“Very poor considering the price”
Reviewed 6 February 2008

The hotel itself looks quite reasonable on first arival. However I found the room to be fairly shabby and the majority of the building looked like it could do with redecorating. Food in the bar was ok but was only saved by the fact it was quite cheap. If the rates were 20% lower this would be a reasonable hotel. However I have stayed in a few places nearby that have been similarly priced which are much better. Great Broughton is also dead. I would reccomend traveling a little further and staying somewhere else.

we booked this hotel as we were attending a function here. The "family room" we got at a discounted price of £75, this turned out to be a double room with a single squeezed in which meant that apart from 1 bedside table the other end the beds were wall to wall. The decor was straight out of the 1970's with an avacado bathroom suite, the bed was really bouncy just to sit on! ,the iron had the bare wires showing, and mould in the bathroom. On the plus side the staff were friendly enough, the breakfast great and they had a unique early morning call service of a recycling van arriving at 8.30am.!!!! Booked a family room the next night at a hotel in leicester and got Hilton quality 2/3rds the price with leisure facilities!!! Don't think we will be reuturning here.

Enjoyable stay visiting friends in the vicinity but there seemed to be a premium for what was a reasonable hotel due to the proximity to the Dales for walking. We paid £85 for rack rate £110 and frankly £65-70 would be about right. (Two days before we had paid £85 for a great hotel in Wells (The Beryl) and this was nowhere close to that standard). On the plus side the pub grub in the building was excellent and very reasonably priced - even more so if you order between 5 and 7pm with two main meals for £7.50. The room was fine, clean and comfortable, with Sky tv, and the breakfast perectly adequate, and I can happily recommend it, especially if you can get the price down a bit. The award winning restaurant is also supposed to be good, although we didn't eat there.

  • Liked — Pub grub in the building
  • Disliked — Price and View of brick wall from room

A clean, comfortable, friendly small hotel and pub in a village
near the North York Moors. The room was spotlessly clean and well appointed, and the breakfast was very good - with a fruit and cereal buffet, and cooked English breakfast both available.

We booked thrugh lastminute.com and got a good discount on the normal room price (though lastminute promised us a room with a 'scenic view' - in fact the room overlooked the carpark! This didn't bother us, but lastminute shouldn't make rash promises!).

We will use this hotel again.
