My husband and I recently held our wedding reception at the wainstones hotel for Friday 13th. David and Laura (and all the staff!) have been thoroughly helpful throughout the whole wedding process, from when we first meet them at a wedding fayre, to booking, the final preparations and on the day itself. The wainstones are very flexible and accommodating and worked with us, making sure the day came in budget and offered many solutions to keep our costs at a minimum without compromising quality.

The hotel itself is lovely, cosy and a typical rural pub, a lovely intimate atmosphere for a family wedding although seemingly small from the outside it’s quite spacious! The secret garden is beautiful and perfect for wedding photos. David and laura are welcoming to your wedding ideas too, and gave us the thumbs up to have llamas on the day.

The wainstones hotel staff are brilliant, keeping the day running smoothly but being flexible on times for the wedding breakfast, making sure all our guests had a drink in their hand or something to nibble on before the meal. The meal itself was beautiful, and the service i cannot praise enough.

On the evening david and his team were, again, fantastic making sure the night ran smoothly, kept guests informed of what time the coach was arriving/leaving and served lovely sausage and burger buns! A big thank you to the chefs, we had lovely, lovely food throughout. After the end of a busy day, the staff tidied everything away for us so in the morning we didn’t have to pack.

The bedroom was lovely, cosy and very comfortable! Couldn’t complain about the rooms, and the breakfast in the morning was lovely too (the lady who served us was also, very chatty and wonderful!)

Just to add the DJ provided by the hotel is fantastic listened to our song preferences, and made sure everyone was up and dancing.

Highly recommend this hotel to other couples thinking of getting married here and to anyone wondering whether to eat out here. Wonderful, wonderful place will be back again soon!

Room Tip: The honeymoon suite is beautiful!

We stayed at Wainstones on the coast to coast walk. The service they provide includes picking us up from our walk finish point, which was great. We were freezing and they were very prompt. Staying in a hotel was a change from B&Bs, with a wider range of food and services. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was fine.

It's the details that count in the end and it was in the detail that the 4th blob was lost! Our 13th night on our coast to coast walk and we we were expert in making judgements by now. The lift to the hotel worked well and the bar service was efficient and friendly once we had inspected spacious, reasonably equipped rooms that had clearly been updated since the 2002 refurb that the hotel 'boasts' of on their web site.
We were served an excellent dinner in the bar but were aware that other tables were not getting very good service - it was all a bit haphazard and under managed. We slept well and breakfast service was better organised although it was clear that the kitchen was stretched. As a result the lifts provided back to the walk got out of sync and the lady who drove us the few minutes up the road made her annoyance with us very obvious!
Nothing overly wrong and mostly easily resolved with a bit more organisation and leadership. A little more updating wouldn't go amiss either.

Quite rundown place, smelly corridors and rooms, very outdated gadgets (e.g. hairdryer + kettle) and furniture, dirty tablecloths, cereals up to 7 months past the expiry date, awful coffee...On a positive note, the evening meals were really good and they pick you up at Clay Bank Top, which is really helpful as a Coast to Coaster.

It is a shame that the hotel is so tired as the staff here are great. The pub meal was also very good and the steak I had was fantastic value (Monday night steak deal). Our room was very large and well equipped but lacking character. The doors are horrible and strange smell of bleach pervades. Overall impression is rather depressing. Breakfast was disappointing.
