“Pub Grub”
Reviewed 7 February 2013

This is an unpretentious pub just around the corner from Guisborough high street. It serves decent pub food (real chips) at reasonable prices - nothing fancy but not expensive either. Excellent Black Sheep beer, and now Hobgoblin too.

Dont get me wrong but here you have the classic problem. The landlady running a bar & bed & breakfast. BUT you cant run one at the expense of the other!!!!
The biggest problem with this place was the noise. A disco is held in the pub downstairs until 2am and there is absolutely no sound proofing. It is unbearable and you cannot sleep until the pub has closed. To make things worse the latest breakfast is 9am and you have to check out by 10 so a good nights sleep is impossible.
Rooms are fine if a little small but sleep is the main here and it's sadly lacking.
Breakfast at The Fox is pre ordered the night before. You can choose EITHER cereal or a cooked breakfast.

As soon as we arrived a lovely young women came to the car to offer assistance with our bags, quite something as it was raining heavily at the time. The rooms are clean with bright spotless bathrooms. Breakfast is included and there is good home cooked bar food at very reasonable prices. We were informed before booking that there was a disco on one evening but it would finish at twelve in fact it was all quiet by eleven and my husband had been asleep for a good half hour! What makes this stay stand out is the very friendly staff who are out to ensure their guests have a great stay and they succeeded in or case. 5* service that would put some top hotels to shame

Room Tip: Room 7 is a family room with double and single bed. No wardrobe.

An unexpected break in our childminding calander enabled us to take a two day Gtoupon deal at this hotel(pub). Having read some of the comments on TA we were a bit apprehensive but at the price felt we could not be robbed and we certainly were not.
A friendly greeting, a nice light well decorated warm room, excellent en-suite. We dined in the bar that evening and enjoyed good 'pub' food and a bootle of reasonably priced Merlot. Breakfast (Full English) was good although my wife's porrage was made with water not the way I make it with miklk but now we are down to nit picking! The noise from dreaded disco (mentioned by other contributors) on Friday night was managable from our room and we went into the bar to people watch. That was very interesting! We enjoyed our stay, GUisboruogh is within weasy reach of our home and well placed for the North Yorkshire Moors, Whitby and the coast. If you don't like a disco go on Monday to Thursday but do go.

I booked this accomodation through "Laterooms.com" as a stopover before "The Great North Run" the following day,and paid £62.50 for a double room, not a fortune I know.My wife and I arrived at about 5pm on the Saturday evening to check in,we were met by a lady, who I presume was the proprietor, having checked in and re-paid the £62.50,(proprietor claimed she, "had'nt received payment from Laterooms yet"), I asked to book a table in the restaurant, only to be told "We don't cook on a Saturday night !".She showed us to our room, which was as described in the website. Just as she was about to leave she turned and said "Oh ! I should warn you, we have a DJ on a Saturday night and YOU WILL HEAR IT!! ". If nothing else the lady was totally truthful !! our room was immediately above the Disco which finally stopped at 1.45 am, thank ****. I'm sure any other night of the week this is accomodation would be deemed, reasonably good value, the bar staff were pleasant, the breakfast was good but we just did'nt get any sleep !!!
