“Great budget hotel”
Reviewed 10 March 2012

Stayed here for 3 nights while visiting family in th area. Excellant staff and great service. Room was spacious and very clean. A very enjoyable experiance - more than I expected from a budget hotel. Would definately return again to this hotel when in the area. Had an evening meal in the Cross Keys Pub, excellant food, good menu choice with excellant service from staff. Some good ales also available.
We had a room at the back of the hotel and we did not experience any noise or disturbed sleep, so recommend requesting a room at the back of the hotel

Room Tip: Request a room at the back of the hotel to avoid noise from the busy road at the front of the hotel.

Stayed in this hotel for 1 night only. I was a part of a visiting sports team. The service from arrival to departure was considerably better than I have ever experienced at a budget hotel. Well above and beyond the call of duty. This included laundering (without charge!) my sweaty kit. I didn't even ask for thios. I simply said 'is there a warm dry place in the building that I can dry my kit after I have rinsed it ouit in the room?' The receptionist, Gill (or maybe Jill?) who organised it, did so with minimum of fuss and as if they go to such lengths as a norm. The staff in the breakfast area (also a much better breakfast than I would expect in a budget hotel) were similarly good. The soap dispenser in my room had run out....... that is the only fault I could find in an otherwise outstanding effort for the price. Thank you.

Room Tip: No comment

Be sure to book a room at the back of the hotel because the noise and passing headlights through the poorly fitted windows and curtains could keep you sleepless. Rooms at the back are far superior.
The food was first class especially the breakfast - poached eggs like I can only dream about cooking. Well worth a visit just for the food.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are far far quieter.

We are Premier Inn fans. This one is beautifully set in the countryside with views across to the Cleveland Hills. The welcome and service were excellent, the food good and served promptly with a smile. We liked the room and the bathroom was fine...but the NOISE.
Perhaps we were unfortunate in our room at the front ,next to the road, but it seemed as if all the population of Middlesbrough had deciced to race to Whitby and vice versa, less than 20 feet away all through the night. A bus pulled up right under our window.
We considered asking to move to the back for our second night, but sadly, we cancelled and went home. Does anyone make quadruple glazing?

Room Tip: Make sure you are at the back, unless you are absolutely stone deaf or have excellent earplugs.

We just stayed at the Cross Keys/Premier Inn Middlesborough South for a family wedding. There were 11 of us in the party and we booked three family rooms, two of which were on the ground floor adjacent to one another, which was great, but the third was upstairs, so less convenient for monitoring the 6 children in various states of sleeping/reading in bed!

The staff at the hotel are generally excellent: very friendly and helpful. The rooms are OK, whilst the bathrooms could probably do with updating.

The bar and restaurant are nice, with decent furnishings, which look to have been recently replaced. Do be aware of the s-l-o-o-w service for food though: we waited for 40 minutes for some 'quick' lunches, and then had to cancel the order as we were about to miss the start of the wedding. The manageress though refunded the cost of the meals without a quibble: excellent customer service.

Our first night was marred by the very loud couple in the room next door - apparently I slept through the first half dozen times, but my wife was kept awake for the whole thing. They finally finished at 3:30am and then appeared to pack up and leave. Thicker walls would probably have been a benefit in this case! The second night was much better, and despite our room being on the 'road side' as opposed to the 'land side' the noise was not too bad.

Overall I think 'Average' is about right. In fact the staff deserve better as they were truly excellent.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road - it does mean you cannot open windows due to noise. And no A/C.
