“Beautiful and charming”

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at The Old Swan and cannot say anything other than i think you would be very hard pushed to find a more lovely place to stay. The Hotel and the grounds surrounding it are just like somthing off a picture postcard.

The food is fantastic and the breakfast was superb. We stayed in room 201 in the 4 poster and it was perfect.

The staff are all polite and very helpful. We did not want to leave and we will be certainly returning to this gorgeous idealic place.

Room Tip: I cant believe there would be anything other than a good room in this perfect little place.

Where to start with this hotel? Perhaps simply by saying that it's the best hotel I've ever been to. We had a riverside room, which had a little terrace on which there was a fire pit where you could toast marshmallows – and the marshmallows were provided. Beautiful countryside, the best breakfast I've ever eaten (the eggs are from the hotel's own chickens). I'd go again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Get a riverside room - well worth it.

We stayed here in April in the long annexe. Our room was a little disappointing although the bed was extremely comfortable and the bedlinen very luxurious looking. I like the 'olde worlde' decor, knights' armour and tapestries, but the room and corridors did feel quite cold, the bathroom a bit dated.
The evening meal in the bar was an average pub meal, certainly not special although breakfast was good. I particularly liked the log fires in the bar and hotel lounge.
Had this been better value for money, I would probably feel more positive about the place, but there are lots of lovely hotels and pubs in the Cotswolds that do as good a job for less money.

We visited with our dog Lucy last week for three days. Beautiful hotel grounds in 65 acres with River Windrush racing past, tennis, croquet, fishing, great walks....Dogs are made very welcome here. Our cosy room was ok, with added touch of a decanter of sloe gin....nice. Absolutely superb breakfasts can be taken outside if warm either from the buffet or to order. Honeycomb was a nice touch. We dined in three times. Menu is quite short supplemented by specials. All our food was excellent pub food.To name the best.....the steak, the guinea fowl, the duck terrine, cheeseboard, trio of puds. Beer on tap varied a bit in quality, the Brakespeares Bitter excellent. Staff service was at all times impeccable, helpful and friendly. The only criticism which was made at the time to the waiter and bar staff was the wine selection. The wine list is short. This hotel calls itself a 5 star boutique hotel which would be fair for all else bar this aspect. No half bottles were available. Plenty of basic wine by the glass. Then there is a list of very expensive wine from the de Savary family cellar, priced at high rates....most of the reds were from lesser vintages inc,, 89, 07, 08 on 88-89 PP. The main red list is rather young in age. We chose the 09 Shiraz at £50 which was nice and worked just. The 2nd night we chose the same again but recd a '10 - we didn't say anything. It was too young. Night 3 we chose the '09 Rioja but were offered a '10. This time we asked if they could look for an '09....it duly arrived and was ok. No Italian red on the list? Perhaps the regular clientele aren't interested in wine?

Thank you for your review and we were all delighted that you and of course, Lucy, enjoyed your visit to the Old Swan & Minster Mill. It is great to receive constructive feedback as we wish to continually improve our hospitality.

As a member of the Wine Society and with a Swiss vineyard in my family, I take a personal interest in wine. We selected a specialist wine supplier, Enotria of Bath, to assist us with our wine list. We feel great care went into selecting the choice, which is concise but manageable. Most importantly, we chose small producers, who we think are selling great wine. For example, we've introduced many of our guests to the wonderful Spanish/Portuguese Treixadura grape, which they may otherwise have not considered. Our "House Red" is an excellent Italian Primitivo and our top seller.

It would be a great help on your next visit to know of certain wines you'd like to enjoy, whilst you're here and, together with Enotria Wines, we'll source them for you.

With many thanks for your review and I look forward to welcoming you back to the Old Swan & Minster Mill. Our New Year package includes wine tasting, which you might enjoy too.

Best wishes

Wow, this is a fabulous hotel with fantastic staff that do their most to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. They are happy to engage in conversation and full of great advice on places to go or visit. Paul and Poppy from the bar/restraunt were a delight service with a smile they went the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable. The food is really nice and plenty of it, we had the picnic hamper for lunch on a couple of occasions which were made fresh each day, there was plenty in them well presented in a basket and blanket, everything was thought about, fabulous. We can reccomend the hotel for a romantic break or if you're on business. The facilities were good a gym, croquet, pet area for children you could even go fishing on the beutiful river running through the grounds. The setting is delightful the management should be proud of what they have achieved and like I said I hope they pass our thanks on to Paul and Poppy. Can't praise the stay enough thanks Roy & Wendy Briscoe

Room Tip: All the rooms were quiet as far as I could make out but some run alongside the river if you want a r...

The Old Swan and Minster Mill is effectively split into 2 parts. The Old Swan being the oldest part and Minster Mill having newer rooms as well as a spa. Owned by the De Savary family, you are immediately welcomed as though you are entering someone's private home. We stayed in the Old Swan which was like picture postcard with log fires, low beams a restaurant and a bar. The room was charming and despite the age of the place was modern in its feel with a small bathroom. The food was lovely, one of the best steak and ale pies ever I would say. The menu is uncomplicated with something for everyone and very well priced. We were even greater at dinner with champagne as they had clearly made a note when I booked that it was our anniversary - a nice touch !
Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were incredibly helpful at suggesting activities and other places to visit on our weekend in the Cotswolds. Really lovely weekend.

Stunning hotel and reaturant on the banks of the River Windrush. Immaculately maintained, finished to a very high standard. Staff friendly and very attentive. Dog friendly if required. I took my wife here for two nights for her birthday. Perfect present with scenic walks, relaxed attitude and an abundence of other activities is required. Spa for Pampering. Would absolutely recommend this for a romantic break. Quite expensive but i think worth the money. Will definitely return.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Countryman Room in the Old Swan - four Poster bed and very quiet
