I have just had a fantastic 1 night stay and this incredible hotel, now how many people can say that after a business trip.

On arrival it was quite apparent that I was somewhere special. The grounds and the river are breath taking.

For business use I can see how it achieved its 2013 business award. The conference room we had was just above reception. Nice big table and comfy seats with top notch equipment. Tea, coffee and fruit juices was available throughout the day. Our working lunch was bought to us and consist in an array of sandwiches, chips, salad, fruit and cake. The food was so good.

Once I checked in I had a short walk to room 109. This seems to be the newer modern part of the hotel.

My room was on the ground floor and as others have mentioned is a little small but it certainly makes up for the quality of the finish. Decorated to a very high standard, modern and tastefully done. Very nice comfy king size bed, flat screen tv, coffee and tea. Some homemade slow gin was a lovely treat at the end of the evening which was supplied I. The room. You had a fan, ironing board, safe etc. Everything plus more than you would get in any 5 star hotel. The bathroom is nicely done and the shower was great. The view from any room in the hotel would be amazing.

Throughout the hotel there are little seating areas, chess sets and we even had a game of croquet on the lawn which was great fun.

We then had a reservation booked at the swan pub next door. A very nice pub and as we had perfect weather there was plenty of places to sit. Nice little park for kids as well.

Now the food, some people have said the menu is limited, they couldn't be more wrong. What they've done is catered to everyone's taste without having a huge menu. The food was very very good, the staff were great and even in a busy evening were faultless.

We later on grabbed a drink and say buy the river back at the hotel.

The next morning I had breakfast back In the swan pub. You had ever urging you could think off. Good quality full English, fruit, yogurt, cereals and pastries. Again the staff were top notch.

Our meeting again was well catered and thought the whole hotel the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful.

After such a great stay I have actually re booked a night for my wife's birthday on Wednesday 30th July. Can't wait to come back and spend he day playing tennis and reading a book with a picnic by river.

If you want a quiet chilled out stay with top service and great food the. This place is a must.

A big thank you to all the staff.

This is a very attractive hotel complex in a beautiful village.

We stayed in the Mill side of the complex which is newer than the old swan part. The mill is quirky and interesting with a river running right through it and nicely landscaped grounds.

We did however find our stay expensive with a few drawbacks. We went for a standard room which cost £165 per night including breakfast. The room was interesting but small. There is no drawer space which means everything you bring is on show unless you put it away in the wardrobe. More importantly, the sound insulation through the wall was really poor and the hacking cough from the next door room sounded as if it was almost in the same room. Maybe insulation is better in other parts of the complex or in the old swan.

Service was very good and the staff were all polite.

The 3 star review does not relate to the restaurant / bar in the old swan part of the complex. The restaurant / bar is very good and would merit on its own a 4 or 5 star rating. The breakfast was excellent with good choice of hot cooked items and cold fruits and other buffet items. The addition of own 'grown' honeycombe was typical of the nice touches here. The evening restaurant was also very good. We ate 2 nights running and found everything we had to be tasty, good quality, and good value. The restaurant and bar areas were very also attractive with a nice lively atmosphere.

Thank you for your review and I am pleased that overall you enjoyed your visit to the Old Swan & Minster Mill. I accept your harsh marking, when you felt that further improvements in our sound proofing and bedroom quality are needed. To this end, I have recently met with the owners to review this and am currently awaiting quotations on new glazing for parts of the Minster Mill. We are confident that this will make a significant improvement.

It's great that you found the food and service to such a high standard and it "ticked all the boxes" for your requirements. We're always looking for ways to improve in everything we do and we shall work hard to make the Old Swan & Minster Mill the very best it can be.

With best wishes

We had a very nice weekend, the staff were all very good & nothing was too much trouble. We'd booked an evening meal for the Saturday which was excellent.
On arrival (which was gone 8:30pm) we did ask if there was any food available, a light snack/sandwich would have been good but they could not do this although we could have had a full blown evening meal!!
The room we stayed in (141) was super, a king size bed & large shower room, the overall cleanliness was good but there were some grained in stains in the shower & some unidentified hairs on the floor near the patio doors & I was unable to start the log burning stove as there were no fire lighters.
The grounds were fantastic with plenty of things to do if you wanted to.

Overall a very good stay

We stayed as part of a Secret Escapes deal which included two nights stay, bed and breakfast, spa treatment, hire of bikes and a fishing experience. We booked as an anniversary break.

We were allocated a Cosy room to begin with, which is exactly as described on the website. Cosy and compact but had everything you needed and was plenty comfortable for us. However, in the morning we were awoken by the room below us getting ready to depart. The airconditioning could be heard in our room and their alarm! I don't think the soundproofing was ideal.

We mentioned this at reception and we were transferred to a traditional room in the older part of the hotel, which was more spacious and luxurious. Very kind of the staff to do this.

The food, the drink and the company was wonderful. The staff were very attentive, friendly and approachable. We had a lovely time staying here.

It was a great base to explore the area and take time to relax in the beautifully maintained grounds. There was time for a game of croquet, boules and my husband took advantage of the fishing experience (though he didnt have a clue what he was doing).

Room Tip: If you want total relaxation, maybe avoid the Cosy rooms

Great place, full of character. Really enjoyed our stay and the tour of the site when we first arrived was a really nice touch. My only comment would be to consider expanding the dinner menu a little, as we felt the choice was somewhat limited.

All in all, spot on...............

Had a lovely couple of days there with my wife and 8 month old daughter. The staff couldn't be more friendly and accommodating. The buildings and grounds are fantastic. High level of attention to detail. The breakfast was most enjoyable with a great choice, cooked, cereals, pastries and fruit. Very relaxing time. Thank you
