“Super setting, atmospheric buildings, great breakfast”
Reviewed 26 August 2014

This is a lovely place to hide for a couple of days!
We received a warm welcome from the hotel staff, the rooms are comfortable and well furnished, if a little small (at the less expensive end) and there is plenty to do.
Luckily we chose to do the river/meadow walk before it rained. This is more short walk than casual stroll and the countryside is delightful. Others played tennis or had fly fishing lessons or played croquet or large chess.
Breakfast exceeded expectation. Again the welcome was very warm. Cold table, bot buffet and specials to order. The fresh strawberries and raspberries were first class as was the choice of fresh honey and jams. Breads and croissants were beautifully fresh and for once the hot buffet had a full range including real local sausages and properly cooked bacon. Super!
We also had afternoon tea and dinner. Lovely scones and clotted cream but strangely dizzy service. At odds with the rest of our stay, it was busy....
Dinner was good too. The steak pie with king Edward mash and vegetables was as good a pie as I have eaten for a long time, really succulent meat. The wine list is quite extensive, perhaps not the best value for money, though if you are feeling flush there is some very fine wine.

Room Tip: The lodge rooms with outside wood burners looked good.

Wonderful place to spend a weekend away. Very relaxing with beautiful surroundings. Weather was glorious so we were able to enjoy the sunshine in the gardens, sipping gin and playing Croquet ! The staff were wonderful especially in the restaurant, and their breakfast was outstanding !!!! Great location too as we enjoyed shopping in both Oxford and Bicester village. Recommend for some "time out" and weekend away from kids !!!!

My son married here in this beautiful setting. We were able to walk up to St Kenelm's Church for the service. Very friendly welcoming staff. Althiough we were away from home, everyone made us feel as if we were at home.
The wedding was very well organised, but at the same time very relaxing. The attention to detail was unbelievable. The staff were attentive but unobtrusive. They all looked like they enjoyed being part of the wedding. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
The quality of the food was excellent and very well presented. The room was very comfortable with little added attentions to detail and even personised mugs for Mother and Father of the Groom!
The hotel is situated in a classic English village making it a good base to visit Oxford and the Cotswolds. It is a perfect setting for an English country wedding.

Beautiful location. Friendly, helpful, charming staff. Attention to detail making patrons feel welcome and 'special'. Superb breakfasts and good quality food in the restaurant. We had taken advantage of an offer and we were there with family. Our rooms were upgraded. Although the temperature control on the shower was difficult to use in one of the rooms the other was fine. Particularly appreciated the sensible check out time as not good to be rushed when on holiday. Lovely walks as recommended in one of the helpful booklets available in the room. Will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: Ring the hotel and discuss your needs as the staff are very helpful and there is a wide selection of...

My nephew got married here. The venue was idyllic and nothing was too much trouble for the staff to ensure that it was a perfect day. The rooms were very comfortable even including a complementary decanter of sloe gin and home made fudge, beautifully wrapped, on the pillows. The hotel is in the heart of the Cotswolds in a classic English village and only about 20 miles from Oxford making it an ideal base from which to explore this lovely part of England. If we are in the area again we would definitely stay at this beautiful hotel.

My sister recently had her wedding here he staff were fantastic, welcoming and friendly. He venue is beautiful, well maintained and thought out. Giant chess, croquet and other games are scattered around and a play room for the little ones keeps them busy. One does need to be aware of the river going through the venue when visiting with children but this did not cause a problem for me even with my 3 boys as there were plenty of other areas to explore. The food which is available at the pub next door was amazing although slightly more pricey then I would normally pay, I am not sure how comparable it is to other venues of the same standard due to being a little out of my league except for on this special occasion. Would recommend for both a weekend away or a wedding.

Room Tip: Would have loved to stay and try the room with a fire pit.

This is a lovely place tranquill relaxing ,very nice
We enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and the walks that are suggested in a pamphlet provided in your room
The breakfast are gorgeous and everything you can wish for was provided
We had also an evening meal in the restaurant wich was good but not worth the price!
Also it's worth mentioning the drinks in the bar are extortionate ! I felt there was no need for these prices ,perhaps it is because they have a captive audience .

Room Tip: We stayed in a cosy room
