“The perfect rural retreat”

We ended up here at the last moment thanks to a booking error elsewhere, and how lucky we were! Ben and Rita immediately made us feel at home, offering us a cup of tea in front of the open fire. We then enjoyed a truly 5* dinner chosen from a menu full of tasty local dishes.
We were due to stay for just a couple of nights, but after two days of such warm hospitality and excellent food, we decided to stay for a further two nights.
If you are travelling in Perthshire and want some where to stay that offers comfort, informal hospitality, and excellent food, all at a most reasonable price, the Bunrannoch is the place for you.

“Home from home.”

Just back from three days of amazing highland hospitality provided by Ben and Rita at Bunrannoch House. This is truly a home from home as each evening, after dinner, people of all nationalities gather around the fire in the comfortable lounge and sort out the world’s problems over a dram or two.
Ben and Rita ,together with their dogs and two ”hand reared” pet sheep are real characters and nothing is ever too much trouble, with Rita even meeting the take away gourmet food requests of guests staying at the nearby time share complex.
Much of the excellent fare, from the wild game to the fish, is sourced locally and was so good that I had to ask Rita to freeze some for me in order that I might return home with a supply of her wonderful venison stew.

Bunrannoch House is a former 19th C hunting lodge and sits proudly on a small promontory on the edge of Kinloch Rannoch village on the” Road to the Isles”.
I used to visit it several years ago when it was run by Jennifer Skeaping a fine Australian lady . Even then, the food was to die for but the house was in need of some serious TLC. This has been undertaken by Ben and Rita who are in the process of bringing the house in to the 21st century. What they have achieved in a short time is amazing and the process continues. I look forward to seeing how the house develops in the next few years.
Presently however the house functions very well and as I have said the food and hospitality are first class. I have come away feeling well sated ,in fact spoiled and happy in the knowledge that I have made new friends in Ben and Rita. I’m counting the days until I can go back!

“Lovely relaxed place for dinner. Excellent local produce used.”

I went to Bunrannoch B+B for dinner on 17th August (20min walk from the highland lodges where I was staying) and found it to be execllent. We recieved a warm welcome and had drinks in the cosy but modern sorroundings of thier lounge. They have a good wine list and several beers to choose from (and many Whisky's as you would expect!) The dinner menu is a 'set menu' for £30. Unlike some of these set menus though there was an excellent choice, 5 main courses, 5 desserts and four starters. The quality of the food was defenantly good restaurant standard. It would not have been out of place at a top end gastro restaurant. The chef and owner really loved her cooking and was happy to talk about the food and tell you how she made it and her husband was excellent with the drinks menu and making sure everything was perfect for us. It was really nice having the people who caught the food and then cooked it talk with such passion about their food.

We then had coffee back in the lounge and sat chatting for a couple of hours with other guests and the owners before going home.

All in all a lovely experience that you just don't get in a reastaurant. Spent £68 on dinner a couple of beers and glass of wine. Value for money is very good for the quality of our dinner. I highly recommend this place for the quality of the food and relaxed informal setting.

“Scotland's best kept secret”
Reviewed 10 August 2010 for a stay in August 2010

I stayed at Bunrannoch house recently and was amazed by not only the scenery surrounding the hotel, but also the quality of service I received.

Bunrannoch House was first built in 1860 as a hunting lodge sitting in the dramatic scenery of the scottish munro's such as the formidable Scheihallion and placid lochs like Loch Rannoch.

Upon arrival we were greeted by host and hostess Rita and Ben. Instantly we were welcomed into their home and offered tea and coffee and were helped to our room. Later that evening, myself and my partner sat in the warm and cosy living area filled with comfy chairs to relax overlooking the Loch. We decided to dine in the hotel that night and we wasn't disapointed by the food on offer. Ben and Rita locally source and cook all the food from fresh on their Menu. If your a fan of traditional scottish dishes then you will not be disappointed. Duck, Haggis and Venison are to name a few. Infact, host Ben hunts the venison himself. From the living room we were welcomed into the dining room and given our meals. The food was truly delicious and certainly memorable and incredibly good value.

If your keen on the great outdoors, Bunrannoch is within a stone's throw of the some impressive mountains to climb. Me and my partner tackled Scheihallion which is an impressive 3554ft high. instead of taking the same route back down the mountain we ventured down another path that led directly back to Bunrannnoch house. Rita and Ben had earlier offered to drive us back to the car park at the start point to fetch our car, which they kindly obliged to do when we returned.

Rita and Ben are magnificent hosts. You arrive as guests and leave as friends. My visit to the house was only brief, however I feel like I have been going for years, it is that homely. I am slightly begrudged to tell the rest of the world about the Bunraannoch house, as I believe it is one of Scotland's best kept secrets. However, who am I to deny the rest of the world of this wonderful place?

Thank you again Rita and Ben, I hope to be back again one day.

“Bunrannoch House is my favourite hotel!”

This is my favourite hotel in the world! The owners, Ben and Rita, are the perfect people to run a small hotel. They give you a warm and friendly welcome and really try to make you comfortable. It is all very informal. They are both excellent cooks and Ben is fluent in more languages than I’ve been able to recognise. When I was there last week not only were some European guests being surprised by his language skills, some vegan diners were amazed to find their menu as extensive as everyone else’s (four starters, four mains and four desserts.) It is all first class Scottish cooking and I find breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner irresistible. I have been going there for several years now and have yet to leave anything on my plate. It is all local produce and the venison really is something special. The rooms are very comfortable but have no frills – not even a TV – but I always leave feeling more pampered than I do from a glossy 5* establishment. This is a hotel for a peaceful break. The views are outstanding – Loch Rannoch is very beautiful – and as a stop off on a walking tour or as a base for a walking or sporting holiday Bunrannoch is perfect. I’ll confess that last year when I stayed it was for complete relaxation and not much activity at all. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
