“Remote and relaxing-just chill out!”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

We stayed here a couple of years ago in the winter and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves so decided to try a summer vacation. We were not disappointed. The unit was right on the loch with fabulous views and clean, comfortable accommodation. If you want to relax, walk, or visit local places such as Pitlochry, Aberfeldy or drive a little further to Perth this is a great base. The weather was good and, as dog owners, were glad that we could take our small dog with us. The advantage of a summer break here is the saving on energy costs as everything is electric and the price of electricity is very high in this area. Our bill this time was £11 but in the winter was over £80.
The local shop has most things you will need and the staff at the resort are friendly and helpful. We didn't visit any restaurants in the area as we brought food and wine with us and the kitchen in the unit had everything you need to prepare your meals and had a large dining table for 6.
Overall a great place to relax and will definitely visit again. I exchanged a week in my timeshare in Lanzarote via Interval International.

Room Tip: All units have stunning views but I enjoyed being next to the loch in cottage 5. Although this is on...

This older timeshare property is well maintained (though somewhat dated), clean and set in one of the most beautiful areas you'll ever see. Though we only needed staff for check-in, check-out and some laundry assistance, they were very nice and helpful. The timeshare is very remote, with only one restaurant we found within several miles. Be prepared to eat at the McDonald hotel restaurant, eat in with food purchased in Pitlochry, or the tiny local market, or travel to one of the surrounding towns which are 15 - 30 minutes drive.
A car is needed at this location, with minimal bus service available. If you're willing to drive a bit, a week or two based at the Highland Club will be rewarded with peace and quiet, fantastic views of Loch Rannoch and surrounding mountains, and day trips to Pitlochry, Rannoch Train Station, Aberfeldy or Inverness. Although at least 20 minutes from a main hiway (ok, "carriage way"), you will be centrally located in the Perthshire Highlands. The single lane road often has more sheep than autos.
The Highland club is strangely surrounded by the us affiliated McDonald Hotel, but has no access to it's pool or spa. The bar and restaurant are open to the public. Shop for your weeks supplies before arriving, but you can pick up small items at the small market across the River Tummel bridge.

Room Tip: Upper Floors have the best views of the Loch.

Another fabulous week with our family in magnificent surroundings. Lodges clean, comfortable and well equipped. Staff friendly and helpful as always. As an owner perhaps we are biased but we've travelled all over the world and the views don't get much better than this.

Confessions first !
My wife and I are timeshare owners at this resort, and have been for decades. It is only fair to point this out, as we clearly have a financial interest in the well being of the club, which some would think might influence this review. That would never be the case, as I always believe in giving unbiased reports regardless of any circumstances.
Loch Rannoch Highland Club was ( I believe ) either the first or amongst the very first timeshare resorts to be opened in the United Kingdom. It stands on the north shore of Loch Rannoch itself, separated from it only by a quiet country road. Most, if not all units command the most breathtaking views of the Loch from panoramic conservatory windows, with the distant Cuillins of Skye often visible at the western end, and the looming bulk of Schiehallion towering over the eastern end.
It is this amazing outlook and situation which validates my belief that the resort is truly unique.
The resort is now owned and operated entirely by an owners committee and the club's small and dedicated army of staff and advisors, and they are doing an excellent job.
Since our last visit, we note that general refurbishment of units is not only accelerating but is of a high standard. The housekeeping seems faultless, and the helpfullness of staff unimpeachable.
The grounds and gardens are quite charming, as evidenced by a good display of flowering annuals, well manicured grassy areas and numerous quirky ornamental garden treats.
In the past five years we have been using our timeshare to travel abroad extensively, however, our experience in July this year has reminded us just how special this resort really is.
Off the beaten track - yes, but if you really want to get a flavour of what the unspoilt Highlands of Scotland are like without sacrificing the best of home comforts, Loch Rannoch Highland Club could be just the place for you.

Room Tip: refurbishment is on going but unobtruslive. Perhaps try for one recently completed if you are renti...

When our Daughters were young we were very fortunate in being able to stay in Lodge 38 during June (week 25) about nine years out of twelve in the 1980s/early 90s and thoroughly enjoyed. It was therefor with wonderful memories that my Wife and I returned after about 23 years to find the Lodge still in great condition and extremely comfortable. Enhancements have obviously been made, including the closed in balcony, and fabrics replaced combining to make our stay again enjoyable. Access to free WiFi is another great addition to the services. We enjoyed local walks, exploring the area again and finding the café in the village to be very welcoming. We will look forward to hopefully again returning before too many years knowing that the Highland Lodges are still Great.

The apartments were spotlessly clean and had everything you would need for self catering. The view was spectacular and forever changing. The beds were so comfy, including the pull down bed. A good base to cycle, walk and have fun with the kids. Slightly out of the way but that is the glory of the apartments.

We have just returned from Loch Rannock Highland Club. The unit was wonderful. It was Otter 1 and the furnishings were lovely, all the crockery matched and the beds were comfy. There was even a sauna. All you could possibly need and spotless. The views are fantastic. There is a long drive on a bendy road to get to the A9 to go sightseeing.A visit to the Highland Wildlife Park is a must. The Clan Night was fun,The Whiskey Tasteing was more fun and my hubby and I came last in the Quiz!! All in all a beautiful place to stay, but not if you want a lively holiday.Electrity was £20 for the week which was ok,but in winter I would think it would be 3 times that, Village shop was very good and prices were cheaper than I thought. A wonderful place to stay.

Our apartments and Lodges can accommodate between 4 and 8 guests. The properties are available to rent, and a few are available for resale, at very competitive prices. The Highland Club is on the banks of Loch Rannoch, a beautiful loch surrounded by walks and scenic locations. The loch, and the Highland Club are presided over by the majestic Schiehallion, or Sidh Chailleann in Gaelic (Fairy Hill of the Caledonians). This Munro is one of the best known in Scotland, and offers breathtaking views and walks.Nestled on the shores of Loch Rannoch, the Loch Secluded and tranquil, as the early morning mists rise slowly from the Loch it is easy to surmise how JM Barrie was inspired to write Peter Pan during his visits to Loch Rannoch area. The imagination can envisage through the mists the bow wave from Hook's ship as it slowly moves towards its Anchorage. The clubs' set activities include; - "the clan night" where two of our tame and (usually) pacified Highlanders give an extremely interesting talk on local history, the clan system, highland dress, and weaponry. The club organised guided walks are set at a pace that everybody can enjoy. Why not spend an evening showing off your intellectual skills at the club quiz night? A water colour masterclass is also provided by the club with a guarantee that every participant will leave with a painting. Of course, no visit to Scotland would be complete without participating in a whisky tasting class.
