“A Peaceful Stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2012

We recently stayed here as part of a Tour group. This was the only hotel where we were not made to feel like 2nd class guests. The location is lovely and made us appreciate it all the more as we had a room with a view over the loch. There seemed to be a good choice of menu too even though it wasn't the regular menu. The rooms are in some need of attention but were clean and large! The bed was really soft and comfortable with plenty of pillows. We did, however, have problems understanding some of the restaurant staff and so breakfast arrived at the table with some ordered items missing. The young staff were keen and attentive but, unfortunately, their English is not yet up to scratch. All in all, I could happily have stayed longer.

Room Tip: Try to book a room with a view over the Loch.

"We have no Standard Rooms left", the booking clerk said as I mentioned I was going to use Tesco Vouchers for my stay. "But, we can up-grade you to a Executive Room for extra". The oldest trick in the book and I fell for it. The hotel was virtually empty. Our room was very nice though; smashing views of the Ben and surrounding mountains with "complimentary" fruit, mineral water, robe & slippers.. For the price of a 3 night stay here on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate we could have went to Spain for the week.

Anyway, the hotel is literally in the middle of knowhere with a 20 mile single track journey to civilisation. OK, the views are stunning, but we passed closer, better appointed accommodation on the way. The hotel is very traditional (tartan carpet brigade) which is what we wanted. The staff were smart, respectful and helpful. The food was very nice but, alas very over-priced. Perhaps companies charge a higher rate for deliveries!! We ate in the bar our last night as it had a better selection with the inclusive deal. The cost of drinks are crazy, especially the wine. A bottle fo House Red or White will set you back mearly £30!!. Really, there is no need. If they lowered their prices people might actually spend some time in the lovely surroundings of the Scaihallion Malt Bar (open fire, big sofas, etc).

The wee pool and sauna and steam room were brill. Very quiet and just the ticket after a days driving, walking and sight seeing; although the lockers could be doing with getting replaced and a few keys for them would be real handy also.

All-in-all, if you have more money than sense and cannot be bothered looking at smaller, family run Guest Houses and Hotels this is the place for you. If not, there are hunderds of rooms in dozens of B&B's in lots of villages and towns instead.

Stayed a t this hotel for a break walking with friends. The hotel is a little dated and the bath in the room would benefit from a quick overhaul. That said great views over the loch, the food was very good and the staff very pleasant. Excellent base for walking munros or just getting away for some quiet time. There is a pool but spent so much time elsewhere did not get the opportunity to use it.

Room Tip: rooms overlooking the loch can be a bit more expensive but with a great view worth considering

We stayed for a weekend in mid April this year, and the hotel is in the most spectacular location, right on the edge of Loch Rannoch, surrounded by mountains. The hotel was really nice, the rooms were clean and spacious, and our bed was wonderfully soft and comfortable, which is not often the case in hotels. The staff were extremely helpful, and best if all for us, they accept dogs, so our Border Collie, Sutty was able to enjoy our weekend away too!

We booked this hotel on a friends recommendation. We needed to be there for an international orienteering event. Our first impressions after a hellish journey, was how very beautiful it was. Yes v old fashioned, but that suited the environs. The staff are so lovely, and very helpful. My mother inlaw had such a beautiful view over the loch, I was initially disappointed that we did not have the same view, but the room was lovely, with bunk beds for the kids, and lots of space. The restaurant for breakfast was really very good, gorgeous presentation of our porridge, which really set us up for running around a mountain all day. The dinner was of a v good quality, but pricey. We ate in the bar the last night, and service by Jose, excellent, but was of a lesser quality than the restaurant. The pool/ gym were very welcome, and although not the most modern of facilities, it was very good. We had a fire alarm evacuation on one of the nights, and when we woke up the next morning there was a letter under our door apologising for the inconvienence.

Room Tip: Ask for the front, but in the extension, to get a quiet room, with a view of the loch

We stayed here in the second week of April. lovely location but the hotel is suffering from a feeling of being dated and tired. There is a majority of foreign staff who do their best but service was often poor and tended to ccater more for the time share residents than the hotel residents. Don't bother with the pool. It's also in need of a makeover. Food was mediocre at best and repetitive. Overall nothing was up to this chains usual standards. Won't be staying there again.
