La Camera Ducale

Although it may appear a little ran down on exterior, the rooms are clean and giant, beds are very comfortable, the shower is hot and strong, the internet is fast. Breakfast somewhat better than a cofe and a cake. Overall it is a steal for the money we had paid.

Contrary to one of the previous reviews, this residence is most convenient for those hoping to see Puglia (Alberobello) and Basilicata (Matera). The hotel is in the middle of the country, off of a typical patchy Italian highway, just a few minutes from Gravina in Puglia. The location really is fantastic, as you get a true feeling of rural southern Italy with low stone fences and horizons dotted with decaying farmhouses. The whitewashed hotel is warm, airy, and secure. The staff are really kind, and the front desk manager made a huge effort to speak English for those in our group who weren't able to speak Italian (this is rare in Italy!). There is also secure and free parking! There were three of us, so we booked two rooms (one a "single" and the other a "double") but the colossal rooms were more like apartments and one could have easily accommodated the three of us! There was a small t.v. with local channels, a fridge, and a sofa bed that was already pulled out and set with linens and extra fluffy pillows. The rooms were decorated in a slightly tacky modern style that somehow really worked with the surrounding area. And the price was absolutely wonderful! Each room went for less than 40 euro a night- that is a huge bargain in Italy! I don't think the property had a pool, but it would be a great addition for travelers in the summer. My ONE major criticism of the property would be the waiter in the restaurant. He was friendly, but he provided three of us with menus from different days and displaying different dishes! Furthermore, he was very pushy, didn't speak any English, and kept trying to talk us into a three course meal when we only wanted meat. In the end, we argued him into giving us a lamb dish we read about in our hotel room (yet another menu from another date that had another dish that caught out eye). It was a disappointment, as the plate was small and lukewarm. The flavor of the sausage was really nice, though! I'd definitely work on cohesion in the restaurant and better organizing the menus and dishes. Otherwise, the hotel itself was really above average and I will stay here again on my next trip to the area!

Room Tip: The rooms are super cheap, so if you want complete privacy you can get a massive room for yourself a...

Loved this hotel! Beautiful property, peaceful, clean and very comfortable beds, working a/c, modern bathrooms. Staff is friendly and helpful.

The hotel is within an hour's traveling of Venice, so you get a lot of bang for your buck in terms of the quality of the hotel. We were able to go to Venice twice, and even in the heat were well-rested and able to do a lot of "touristing". There are other historical/tourist type sites in the area, so lots to do all within an hour of the hotel. And then when you come back, you have a restful, peaceful environment for walks or just hanging out on the porch.

La Camera Ducale was a pleasant surpsise.I knew it was located in a rural area but hadnt imagined how fine that hotel would be.The room we were given was a large one with ample space for a family .Everything seemed quite new and clean.
There is free parking space for the cars and a night watchman who locks the front gate after 11pm --you had better check in before then--but is there to open it.
The cheap price 59euros included a satisfying breakfast.
I would certainly spend some more days again there.

We stayed 3 nights at La Camera Ducale near Gravina as part of a touring holiday of Puglia/Basilicata in May 2013 . An informal and somewhat unusual location with high standards of comfort in arable farmland location. Apartments are on 2 floors in blocks with a small outside area. Not many guests at that time of year meant that we had a quiet time, though if the hotel was fully occupied that could be different. Good breakfast available inside or on terrace. NB there is no swimming pool. Convenient location for day trips to Matera, Alberobello and various beautiful scenery and unusual countryside.

Room Tip: we booked through Expedia so we got a good price! .
