But thats a good thing because Ilminster is a nice place to visit. I had a great room very big and overlooking the gardens and outdoor pool which I presume is filled in the summer? Great proper fire smell when downstairs, lovely old building and there is a good bar. I had the three course dinner for £23 which was very good and breakfast if you wanted plenty was plentiful. It even had sky sports!!!!!!!! I enjoyed the experience and would stay again. The only note I would have is that coming down the hill from town at night it is very welcoming, coming up the hill because of a lack of lighting it doesn't look as good.

Room Tip: Room 17 great view

This is a Best Western Hotel but very much felt like a long established family hotel, which is was. Very conveniently situated for a break on the way to the West and quite "buzzy" for a quiet market town. Lots of nice touches including plenty of grab rails in the bath - we've just had new knees - and a television which had a sound limiter on it, who wants to hear next doors telly!!

Staff very good, when we wern't comfortable with our first room, very narrow and overlooking the carpark, we were moved into another larger room with nice views. The food was good - chefs been there for over 25 years, so good staff relations.

Room Tip: If possible, I would ask for a room at the back of the hotel.

I stayed for one night on a business trip and really enjoyed my stay - the staff were all really friendly and helpful, and made us feel very welcome. The rooms had everything you need - comfortable beds with a range of pillows, flat screen tv with good channel selection, decent shower, good sized rooms and bathrooms. We had both dinner and breakfast and both were decent, and the bar was cosy with a fire perfect for winter. Overall, if I'm back in the area I would definitely look to stay here again, no complaints at all.

We had our annual Christmas lunch at The Shrubbery this year, as usual the food was excellent. very tasty and hot. Service was also very good and we shall be back again next year. Well done!
We would all recommend this Hotel to others. I also noticed a large party booking again for next year, before they left - surely that is a good recommendation!

Room Tip: Did not stay as we live locally

Stayed here to attend a business function. I have stayed in many hotels over the last few months, and this one was by far the best, the staff were very welcoming, the bed really comfortable , the room was really clean and the view amazing, Breakfast was served by a lovely lady, the plates were hot as was the food beautifully cooked, I would definitley stay again if in area.

Room Tip: No 17 view brilliant.

Lovely looking hotel with pretty garden. Room clean , quiet and most comfortable bed I have ever had away from home. Staff welcoming. Tasty breakfast. Would use again. The only small negative was that some areas looked a little tired but this standard was consistent with other hotels we have used that were 3 star. Also would like to have been offered a choice of toast. These are only small picky points and should not put you off staying there.

Room Tip: We were in room 26 overlooking the garden. Very large comfortable room. There was not spa and fitness...

We stayed here two nights. The hotel itself was ok, the room was clean and comfortable and it did the job for staying over. The main issue was we were there over a bank holiday and they had weddings on both the Saturday and Sunday evening, this meant that we had to squeeze through wedding guests having a cigarette by the door when we wanted to go in and out and could not have a drink in the bar without feeling as if we were gate-crashing a private party. In addition to this, whilst the hotel itself was reasonably quiet the smoking guests all congregated below our window, one night they were still out there chatting at 2am which was a bit much.
On the plus side we had room service on the first night we arrived, this was delivered quickly, was steaming hot and delicious and the staff were attentive in coming up to take away plates and deliver the next course. I would not extend such praise for the breakfast which was ok but nothing special and would certainly not be worth the price if not in with the room.
A word of warning on Illminster- there really isn't much to do. On the second night we decided to take a walk into the village to eat out and the choice was pretty slim. Apparently there are two Indian restaurants in the town but we unfortunately stumbled into the bad one! They did not take card and did not tell us until we had sat down and been served popadoms that they did not serve alcohol! Too late to go and buy we ate our mediocre curry with a coke. All in all the hotel is ok for a stop over but I wouldn't go back and I certainly would not go back to Illminster.
