We have just returned from a 10 day break on the Sir Ulfius narrow boat. This is our 3rd canal boat holiday but our first with Countrywide. The boat, although a few years old, was well appointed and comfortable. The pre-trip instruction on the boat was comprehensive and helpful, including good tips on places to visit en-route. On the second day of our trip we had a problem with the engine when it wouldn't switch off. However, when we rang the number provided, even though it was a Sunday evening, we received helpful, friendly advice and a temporary fix that enabled us to continue our holiday until the engineer was able to come out to us on Tuesday to provide a permanent solution to the problem. It was also good to know that at the end of the holiday there were no additional bills to pay for fuel etc that you get with most other canal boat hire companies. I would definitely book a holiday with Countrywide again.

Stayed on the Sir Belin Narrow boat, we travelled from Brewood with Countrywide Cruisers.

I would definitely recommend a weekend away on the canal, being on the canal was a great experience, however I would NOT RECOMMEND using COUNTRYWIDE CRUISERS BREWOOD. The customer care we received was very poor throughout. The member of staff I dealt with on the phone and on arrival was extremely obnoxious and rude. The boat had not been properly prepared prior to our arrival which meant we spent a night without any heating or hot water. On the following day we voiced our concerns prior to our departure from the Brewood, a member of staff came aboard and told us he had fixed the problem and the boat would heat up over the next few hours. The boat did not heat up and by afternoon was freezing, it was colder on the boat than outside. At this point I called countrywide Cruisers at Brewood and then were not not happy to help, I was informed it would take over an 1 hour to get someone to us despite us only being less than 8 miles away from Brewood. I was then issued instructions over the phone on how to repair the boiler, luckily the instructions worked, however the radiator in the kitchen/bedroom where 2 people were sleeping never heated up. In addition to this we also experienced a leaking roof in the kitchen/bedroom over the double bed, which made for a wet and cold nights sleep for the two people staying in this room. On our return to Brewood we were asked to post out keys through the letterbox, which we did, following our trip we did not so much as get an email or call asking us if we had an enjoyable weekend nor an apology for the heating issues. I was very disappointed with their customer care throughout and would not book via these again.

Just come back from a 4-night cruise on lovely Sir Belin. Contrywide Cruisers were A1. So friendly, helpful and accommodating- and great value! We had booked with another firm a couple of years ago, and was going to do so again, until they started adding surcharges (eg £25 to add a bunk, even thought the boat was listed as being the right size for our party of 5). Countrywide were very clear that their prices are all-inclusive, and they're cheaper than the other place, even before the surcharges are added! Win!!! Cliff who showed us around, was a gem, and it was lovely to be allowed to settle in before having to think about the "induction". We had to phone the office a couple of times during the cruise with small worries ( eg the fuse had tripped for the shower pump) and they were extremely helpful and sorted the problems- and eased our worried minds!- quickly and in a very friendly way. The route was interesting- a weird mix of very rural and housing estates, with some very lovely pubs, and lots of cute ducklings, baby moorhens, herons and so on. Sadly we didn't manage to see any otters, though there was a sign which said they could be around. The people on and around the canal were incredibly friendly, and offered useful advice in a non-intrusive way. I was amazed at the enthusiasm with which people unfailingly waved as we tootled by- including the residents of a retirement home who were all at dinner! Lovely! All in all a fab time- countrywide cruisers are the best! Thanks so much X

Just returned from a week long trip on Countrywide Cruisers Sir Melleaus with Mum, Dad and two sons on board.

Good clean boat with all the home comforts you would need on a canal boat holiday.

Excellent orientation by Cliff. Even though we had done canal boating before managed to pitch the handover as if it were a refresher. The boat has a traditional stern which is OK for two but a bit cramped for any more to stand at the back.

Locks were a doddle, not much traffic considering this was the 1st week of the school hoildays.

Many comments from other established boaters saying that they like Countrywide as the boats are always well turned out and they are a well run family owned business rather than a big multi depot affair.

Pubs all along the canal with good places to stop and tie up overnight. The Anchor is worth a visit for a back in time experience, but only Wadsworth 6X is available....the pub has a nice garden.

We had one problem with the boat which was resolved with William responding to our phone call and him being with us within an hour. Thanks William.

Will we go back to Countrywide.....you bet!!!

We have just returned after a weeks holiday on Sir Ladinas with 2 kids aged 8 & 10 and 2 dogs. We have had an amazing time on our first canal trip. We headed towards Chester as we didn't want the pressure of having to complete a circle within the week. This was perfect for us as we stopped wherever took our fancy and we made use of the canal side pubs! We used some Tesco clubcard vouchers to pay for part of this holiday and this was no problem to Countrywide, they were more than welcoming. We opted for Countrywide as we liked their one price policy with no hidden extras, and the layout of the boat suited us. The companies website is very basic so we were expecting a basic equipped boat so I was amazed at how well equipped the kitchen was, which even included your washing up liquid, salad bowls, serving platters, jugs, juicers etc. This was a very pleasant surprise. The décor was slightly dated but spotlessly clean. I had read previous reviews complaining that the beds are only 4' wide, but you are on a 6' wide narrow boat so I am not sure what some people expected. There were also some negative reviews complaining there were no towels but nowhere on the booking does it say towels are provided. We were met by a very helpful lady as soon as we arrived and our boat was moored and waiting for us. We were given out life jackets and invited to load out luggage. We were then shown around the boat by a very helpful and friendly man and given a comprehensive step by step on how to use everything. He also offered to some with us for a short way if we were a bit nervous but we headed straight off. The week was amazing, we met some very friendly local people, and there was a real sense of community on the canal. We managed our first lock with no problems much to our relief! And the rest was plain sailing. We would recommend The Boat Inn at Gnosnall Heath the food was delicious, reasonably priced and the staff lovely. Audlem was very busy as there was a transport festival a few days later but it was a lovely village to have a look around. We had a few well earnt pints at the Shroppie Fly after 13 locks. The scenery along the canal was stunning and it was lovely to be able to moor up virtually where you want in the middle of nowhere and not a house or boat in sight! We turned around just passed Nantwich and headed back. For those with kids, ours enjoyed and few hours in the outdoor swimming pool in Market Drayton. Overall this was a brilliant holiday and we would not hesitate to book again with Countrywide Cruisers.

Booked and paid for by my folks for a family holiday to celebrate Mums 70th birthday, we have just come back from a nice week with Countrywide. We had the 8 berth 'Jaqueline' boat, which was an older boat on the fleet, but still pretty well appointed, clean and tidy. Priced very reasonably compared with the competition (much cheaper than Black Prince for example, although their boats are very well appointed). Mum has commented very favourably on the friendliness of the staff on booking, paying, queries and questions regarding the holiday. Price was fully inclusive of fuel, gas, etc., so no extras too worry about. All bedding provided, just bring your own towels.
We had 2 accidients while away (sorry Countrywide) - broke a fridge shelf and bent the tiller by getting it caught under the lock gate bridge on Lock 1 of the Droitwich Canal (watch out for this if you have a long boat!) We phoned in the damage while still out and Countrywide were absolutely fine about it.
All in all, very happy with the service, boat and canals.
A word about the Stourport Ring. A good mix of rural and industrial landscapes to see. We didn't to visit stop anywhere on route, just enjoyed the scenery, although Stourport & Droitwich looked worth a visit. Be prepared to self cater more than you thought - many of the canal side pubs were closed down, even the latest guides and Google seaches were out of date.
