Description: The Dolphin, now the hub of the community, is an ideal resting base to explore Thorpeness and our neighbouring towns Aldeburgh and Southwold, or just enjoy a peaceful walk around Snape Maltings and RSPB Minsmere reserve plus many more local must sees. A short stroll takes you to miles of unspoilt Suffolk Heritage coast and the very popular Mear, a boating lake which is on our doorstep and just up the road - The House in the Clouds. The Head chef is passionate about local produce and the kitchen not only creates a daily changing menu for the restaurant using some of the best local producers but makes and supplies Thorpeness Village store, attached to the Dolphin Inn, with chutneys, jams, pies and pastries. As a free house the bar dispenses award winning real ales all sourced locally from independent producers including Adnams, Brandon brewery and Woodfords. We have developed an excellent wine list with wines sourced from some of the best cellars around the world featuring alongside a large selection of bourbons, single malts and port. A roaring log fire in the winter, a huge garden with barbecues in the summer and well appointed four star en-suite bedrooms, this is a genuine pub where you can expect great food and great beer served in a warm friendly environment.

We used this Inn twice, it was good food and service and very busy with many people and families holidaying over the half term holiday

“Good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

Six of us ate here on a Saturday evening. Four adults a 13 yr old and a 3 yr old. The service was quick and pleasant. There was something for everyone on the menu and they were very accommodating letting the kids mix from the children's and main menu. The food was very tasty. The restaurant was reasonably busy at 7pm and was getting busier. The outside area is great for a drink and eating on lovely summers evenings.

“Disappointing visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2014

I booked a table at the dolphin for lunch last Saturday for 4 people. It was bank holiday weekend and the pub was extremely busy. We had to queue at the bar just to let the staff know we had arrived , finally shown a table but had to wait sometime to be served . We ordered drinks which we had to wait an age for....once we chased them up for the second time, they arrived and we were told because of the wait that they were on the house. That was a very nice touch. Unfortunately nothing improved after that. The garden was very busy and those out there ordered their food at the bar so as you can imagine us in the restaurant suffered because of this. The food finally came and it was of average quality. I was very disappointed as I had eaten in there before on a visit to aldeburgh and it had been very good. Won't be going back unfortunately.

“1st visit to The Dolphin Inn, great setting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

Had our Sunday lunch today at The Dolphin, great weather so sat outside.
Was disappointed as I had the rib roast beef which is my favourite, it came with two roast potatoes which were burnt, a little seasonal veg, a yorkshire pud and literally a splash of gravy most of all everything lacked in the heat department all in all a poor effort, the meat was ok!
Would go back and try again as it was coming to the end of service of food, even though every meal from start to finish should be of the same standard!

We are regular visitors to the Dolphin Inn and always have an enjoyable experience. On a busy Easter Saturday evening we received a warm welcome, excellent service and a delicious supper with great local ale and delicious wine. Always a great atmosphere and delicious local food.
