Description: The Dolphin, now the hub of the community, is an ideal resting base to explore Thorpeness and our neighbouring towns Aldeburgh and Southwold, or just enjoy a peaceful walk around Snape Maltings and RSPB Minsmere reserve plus many more local must sees. A short stroll takes you to miles of unspoilt Suffolk Heritage coast and the very popular Mear, a boating lake which is on our doorstep and just up the road - The House in the Clouds. The Head chef is passionate about local produce and the kitchen not only creates a daily changing menu for the restaurant using some of the best local producers but makes and supplies Thorpeness Village store, attached to the Dolphin Inn, with chutneys, jams, pies and pastries. As a free house the bar dispenses award winning real ales all sourced locally from independent producers including Adnams, Brandon brewery and Woodfords. We have developed an excellent wine list with wines sourced from some of the best cellars around the world featuring alongside a large selection of bourbons, single malts and port. A roaring log fire in the winter, a huge garden with barbecues in the summer and well appointed four star en-suite bedrooms, this is a genuine pub where you can expect great food and great beer served in a warm friendly environment.

My old mate Joffy has raved about this place, and it's taken him over a year to get me here. It was we'll worth the ninety minute trip! Great place, full of character, great staff, and top notch grub! Melt in the mouth Rib-Eye, and the best Apple and Berry Crumble I've had in yonks! Great beer garden, I would have loved to spent the afternoon getting rubber legged there, but I had to drive home! Maybe next time? A great place to eat, drink and be merry. Thanks Joffy!

“Sunday roast, fruit crumble and custard, think it was £13!”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

Lovely sunny, Sunday lunch. Had a drink in the super, big beer garden first, then choice of roast beef or chicken, crumble of the day, really quite good. Would recommend.

“Dog-friendly bar with good food”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

I lunched here with my wife and our dog, Oscar. The inn provides water for thirsty dogs. The food was good and reasonable priced. I had a mixed meat platter and my wife had a mixed cheese platter. Both dishes were similar to a ploughman's. We enjoyed the food, so did Oscar.

The beer was good with a decent choice.

We'll definitely return when we visit Thorpeness.

“Bustling inn, but well run and good food”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

Family focussed inn (allowed us to dine with baby in arms!). The menu whilst not vast seemed to have something for everyone. A table of 6 adults, 1 child and 1 baby, we ordered two fish pies, which were OK, but coud have had more variety of fish in it; two burgers which were thoroghly enjoyed; mackerel fillet - excellent; and two grilled fish 1 adutl and 1 child. Service was with a smile and quick considering how busy it was, and the price wasnt too bad. Would visit again.
