Description: The Dolphin, now the hub of the community, is an ideal resting base to explore Thorpeness and our neighbouring towns Aldeburgh and Southwold, or just enjoy a peaceful walk around Snape Maltings and RSPB Minsmere reserve plus many more local must sees. A short stroll takes you to miles of unspoilt Suffolk Heritage coast and the very popular Mear, a boating lake which is on our doorstep and just up the road - The House in the Clouds. The Head chef is passionate about local produce and the kitchen not only creates a daily changing menu for the restaurant using some of the best local producers but makes and supplies Thorpeness Village store, attached to the Dolphin Inn, with chutneys, jams, pies and pastries. As a free house the bar dispenses award winning real ales all sourced locally from independent producers including Adnams, Brandon brewery and Woodfords. We have developed an excellent wine list with wines sourced from some of the best cellars around the world featuring alongside a large selection of bourbons, single malts and port. A roaring log fire in the winter, a huge garden with barbecues in the summer and well appointed four star en-suite bedrooms, this is a genuine pub where you can expect great food and great beer served in a warm friendly environment.

“Great pub lunch including real food for kids”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2014

We stopped here for lunch on the garden and had a fab lunch. I had a dressed crab salad which was the best I've had and my husband had a really simple but excellent ploughmans. My kids had hot dogs which were lovely sausages in a great bun. Good value all round.

“Good food, great setting”

Enjoyed good food here again - Seabass fresh and perfectly cooked accompanied by courgette fritter and rocket salad. Good choice of beers and boules for the kids in the garden. Staff friendly and attentive. Will visit again before the end of our trip.

“Nice lunch, Oscar the Labrador came too...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2014

My wife and I have eaten here a few times when visiting the area. It's good to eat a place that welcomes dogs in the bar and doesn't force you to eat and drink outside.

The menu was adequate but, as other reviews point out, not cheap. Still, it keeps the hoi polloi out:-) I was the roughest person there and I've only got one tattoo.

The food was good and served fairly quickly in spite of it being a busy lunchtime. The bar and waiting staff were friendly and attentive.

They had a water bowl for dogs (and cats?) outside the bar but it hadn't been cleaned or filled recently. I asked the staff to refill it but our fussy dog remained uninterested.

It was lovely to see a game of boule going on in the garden. It looked like a regular occurrence. It should be an Olympic sport.

We'll certainly eat here when we visit the area again.

“Simple fare - excellent beer!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2014

Lovely location with spacious grounds, well laid out with lots of outdoor seating and gazebos and french boules. Menu is is simple and limited but food is excellent. Also beer - Adnams - is wonderful - on a hot day nowhere better to have a good simple meal and excellent beer in great outdoor surroundings!
