“good value if you get a cheap deal”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

Stayed one night here on 24th April after playing golf at Tyrrells Wood.
I had booked in advance and had a very good price £ 39 for a double room.
As a single I was very impressed with my room 152 which was up the stairs
and a short walk down the hall.
Everything was clean and tidy, hairdryer, iron and ironing board. I think they
cater for many business people.
Had a meal in the bar which I thought was very good , salmon for £11.95.
Breakfast is also a good price, £8.95 for buffet, hot and cold everything.
Thought this was great value.
Only negatives were the VERY poor phone signal from the hotel and the
early checkout Monday to Friday (9am) but if you ask nicely they will extend
til 10am which gives time to have breakfast.
For a quick stay this is a good hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that looks out on the courtyard and restaurant

1 night stay.

Rooms - budget room (£60 per night) was allegedly a double. "Small" doesn't even begin to describe it. Stuffy, to say the least.

Furnishings - bed, tiny. Mirror, kind of "pinned" to the wall, at the top of the mirror, but the bottom of the mirror jutted out into the room, eating into the very limited space. This thing was ready to fall off. Appalling.
Bed about as comfortable as a plank of wood. Premier Inn beds are much, much better.

Facilities - website readily advertises "room service", only to be told there is no room service once we'd checked in? Showed them THEIR website on our tablet computer and were told that in 7 years no-one had ever asked for room service, ever? Really?
We finally managed to agree we could order from the Bar Menu and take it to our room. For the best really, as the bar was utterly overcrowded in the evening, the restaurant even more so.
No chance to experience the gym or swimming pool - both were full of kids, unfortunately.
WiFi rubbish throughout our stay.

Food - Bar Menu burger was great - no complaints. The breakfast was staggering. Completely burnt hash browns (that the Chef even considered putting them out for service is amazing), completely overcooked scrambled eggs, unevenly cooked bacon...........it was all really poor.
In isolation a cooked breakfast costs something like £8.50 per head. That is a disgrace given what was on offer. We managed to get it included in room rate in advance. If I'd paid £17 for that, I'd have been far more disparaging.

Check Out - not even asked "how was your stay", at which point I could have raised these issues and least received a small apology or explanation.

And for that reason I turn to Tripadvisor and give this place the lowest score I could, except that the "room service" meal was surprisingly good.

Definitely a hotel to avoid.

Room Tip: Perhaps if you pay more you get a better room? But budget rooms are absolutely tiny - Premier Inn is...

The hotel has substandard rooms, which make Travelodge and Ibis seem like superior rooms. There is no lift at this hotel, so be cautious if you struggle up the stairs with luggage.

There is no air conditioning either, so the room got extremely warm at times.

I had booked a double bedroom, for one adult, but found that the bed was in fact larger than a single, but smaller than a average double bed. I am 5'6 but my feet were dangling out throughout the night, so I didn't get a good nights sleep.

The pool was not working, and we did complain, as specifically booked this hotel to make use of the facilities throughout the afternoon. The manager, David took a very long time to get hold of to sort out the complaints.

I have contacted the hotel via email directly to see if they can offer any form of compensation for inconvenience, but they are not interested in customer service. The blonde receptionist was quite rude and didn't manage to smile at all, whereas the other receptionist Theodara was brilliant.

Very disappointed with all this, and would not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms are all small, so not much choice really.

Dear katwa01
Thank you for your review of Horsley Park. I am sorry that the venue and services provided did not match your expectation on this occasion. As a number of reviews have mentioned we did loose our pool for a period over the bank holiday weekend which was hugely frustrating for us all but for safety reasons had to be done - please accept my apologies for this.

Well done Horsley Park and thank you for helping to make our rugby tour go so well. A balance of old a new has been designed well and the older parts of the hotel look stunning, a great back drop to our 007 tour.
We had approx 65 rooms with with over 70 children from 6 - 13 on tour along with their parents and siblings.
The hotel staff were amazing and kept going the extra mile to accommodate our growing needs and demands.
The food service was well managed and feedback was very positive, your bar man was a legend and I think we done his takings a boost!
For a main evening the bar staff in the Karaoke bar made for an amazing night.

What could you do better, a few more smiles in reception on the Saturday please.

All in all, top stuff and every has been raving about the tour and the venue.

Thanks again

We spend a night at this hotel and were disappointed after a long day cycling in the Surrey Hills to be told there had been a power failure and that the pool was not working. The fire alarm went off due to the steam from someone's shower and it was all chaos for a Sunday afternoon. To be fair, the Receptionist was trying to be all things to all people and didn't appear to have any support.

The dinner buffet was good in the evening and the bar did have a nice atmosphere. Our room although small was perfectly adequate and the bed was comfortable. The hotel is well placed for various attractions in Surrey although it could be improved.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a deal £20 a night. We were in the modern part which obviously has a lot of business customers. Not much in the way of luxury. However the room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable. For the price we paid I felt it was an absolute bargain. We ate in the bar and our burger was delicious. We had the buffet breakfast and that was a very slick operation with lots of choice and frequent replenishments.
This hotel is set in lovely grounds in a very salubrious area. We walked to the train station to get the train to London and it's only 40 minutes. It really is a good base for lots of nice places to visit like Hampton Court.
On the whole the staff were pleasant and we enjoyed our stay and would return.

Stayed here for one night in a double room. The drive up and setting of the hotel is beautiful. Lots of greenery and fields. Drove past what looked like a castle but was disappointed to find the hotel was in the management building instead. Room was very small but clean. Bathroom was clean but no hot water in the shower. We also checked in about 3pm and by 4pm were evacuating the hotel out of a fire exit with blaring alarms with the rest of the guests and staff. Not sure whether this was planned or not but if it was then maybe a warning would of been nice? There is very little to do nearby so if you want to explore nearby places then a car to get to cobham or Guildford is a must. Did not use the leisure facilities and lucky we did not want to as the pool was out of use!

Dear Hannah
Thank you for your recent review of Horsley Park. Our apologies for the fire alarm but as I'm sure you will accept when these things happen the right and proper action is to complete a full evacuation - I am sorry it disturbed your stay.
