The Navidale has a great location, looking out over the North Sea. It is an imposing country house hotel. The rooms are nicely decorated and spacious, but the hotel suffers from the owners fondness for antique ornaments, otherwise known as 'tat'. Dusting them all must be a full-time job. On checking in, the friendly owner introduces himself, and his dog. Archie is ok as dogs go, and rarely intrudes, although on a previous visit, he persistently hogged the small fire in the bar, the only source of heat in the whole hotel (or so it felt).
Dinner was a bit of a disappointment. There was a main course choice of steak or spaghetti bolognese. Nothing else! The steak was a touch pricey for me, at £17, so I had the spag (£11), which was only so-so. Given the hotel's maritime location, some sort of fish should be mandatory. And surely they must have a deep-freeze!
Given the poor choice of food, and the lack of heating, I can't recommend the Navidale, and hope I won't be back.
