Just returned from 2 nights here with friends on a golf wekend.

Loved it. We are all frequent travellers and hotel users and the stay was exceptionally pleasant. The staff are the jewel in the crown, very friendly, very helpful. There are 2 of the best golf courses i have played and an exceptional spa for enjoyment.

The rooms were light and airty, and reasonably spacious, well equipped and clean.

We ate in the grill where the food was good, not great, with ample portions. The restaurant service was exceptional, with very friendly & helpful staff. Breakfast was adequate with a good buffet and lots of fresh fruit.

The spa was very good, a decent pool, steam and sauns with a comprehensiv selection of treatments.

The location is easy to find and very spacious, but a drive from anywhere, you'll need a car or other transport to get into Cardiff. Very spacious and open surroundings, and also the training ground for the Cardiff football & rugby teams. The Welsh RFU also have their training here with facilities out of the way u in the woods!

Would recommend you go there for a break, especially if you like golf or spa treatments. Probably the best golf resort you would get.

Prices reasonable. We booked through golfbreaks and received an excellent deal.

We WILL be back.

Room Tip: I liked being away in the wings (we had rooms 1, 2 & 10) on the ground floor so we weren't i...

There was 10 of us, we stayed for one night. We arrived at 10am on a saturday morming, rooms were ready which was great!!!However it went down hill from there. The spa was very unorganised, lunch was very poorly done, the staff seemed very stressed. They need a room just for the lunch,a nice buffet would be good. The spa areas were fab but once again no one made you feel special, water jugs were empty no ice, no service. You have to buy tea and coffee at your included lunch!!!!!No nice fresh herbal teas they could do with nice tea programme. The spa shuts at 6!!!!!!!!! you have to remove your robes as you cant take them back to the room,so after a nice relaxing spa u have to get dressed and hurry back.We ordered Champagne which was just dumped in the middle of the table no ice bucket they never even opened it for us or served it..
Our dinner was late not our fault, and once again no service here what so ever!!! !Terrible, little staff, no service,no entertainment, no phone reception, no cash machine.!!!!!!!!!!Drinks were priced well however. Meal was ok, had a steak no steak knife given. The best service was by Fred the Porter, he was very helpful and happy to help well done Fred, you saved the day !! I think a new manager is needed to oversee all customer service.

Room Tip: Rooms were quiet and very clean

Management response:Responded 5 July 2012

Dear Reviewer

I was sorry to read the issues you raised with regard to your visit to our new spa. This is not the usual feedback we receive and I apologise if you left feeling disappointed with your experience.

I believe the weekend in question was a very busy one throughout the Resort but this should in no way have reflected on your stay. Please be assured all your comments have been taken on board and will be discussed at our next management meeting.

Thank you for your nice comments on Fred our Concierge, glad he cheered up your day.

Many thanks

I stayed in the hotel for one night only but could have easily stayed for a week. By booking a room you get full use of the gym and swimming pool area. We also had food in the vale grill which was amazing. The food was of the highest standard and was very reasonably priced. We had a room which overlooked the golfcourse, the room itself was beautiful and the staff were all helpful and happy. DEFINITELY book here just for the chance to experience such a relaxing couple of days and escape from home.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the golf course if possible... the balcony adds a special touch :)

I stayed here for 3 nights 26-29 June '12 for business. I am a return visitor and always stay at The Vale if I am in Wales for business. It's really close to the M4 (perhaps 5 mins tops) but far enough away to have a rural setting.

The rooms are huge, this time I was upgraded to an executive room with a balcony overlooking the golf course. The room had an enormous bed, plenty of storage, a decent hairdryer (something that the large chains often lack), bathrobe and slippers, a big desk, a very large flat screen tv and the bathroom had a separate walk-in shower as well as a super-deep bath. The water pressure is amazing - really good after a decent session in the gym! It was absolutely spotless and hoovered every day - again, something the large chains definitely do not do.

The staff are so friendly and helpful. There is always a smile and a greeting whenever you pass. The food in the Vale Grill is excellent standard, tasty and exceptionally well presented. Breakfast is delicious and plentiful. I thouroughly recommend the locally produced sausages, some of the tastiest I've had. The gym is by far one of the best facilities I have ever been to and exercising with some of the rugby team certainly increased my determination to work out for longer :-)

I just need to find a reason to go back to Wales on business again next week...

Room Tip: Most executive rooms have a balcony overlooking the golf course which is lovely and peaceful - perfe...

We attended our son's wedding at the Vale and couldn't speak highly enough of the service we received from the arrival through to the end of the day. The wedding venue was lovely with views sweeping across the golf course. The food was 1st class, faultless ! The rooms were fab, and the breakfast again 1st class. We had stayed at the St. Davids Hotel, Cardiff Bay the week before and it certainly didn't come up to the Vale's standard for food/room/service. The Vale should be very proud of all its staff, They helped to make the day really special.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the golf course are worth the extra.

We went with friends and whilst the boys played golf us girls relaxed in the spa over a 2 day break.

The rooms if dated were comfortable and we did get a very nice breakfast.

However during the evening meal we were served for pudding burned tart - shame on any chef from a hotel of that standard that allows meals of that low quality to reach the table! However when complained did offer alternative but this hotel needs to watch its standards don't drop if it wants to receive business in the future
