“Value at the Village”
Reviewed 25 January 2014

Booked a one night stay here during the Winter Sale and got an amazing rate. The Hotel is situated just north of Leeds city centre with a good public bus service which stops just outside. A good gym and pool are available to guests and the building is modern, clean and a pleasant place to stay. Rooms are a good size and comfortable with a large tv and pillow menu. Reception staff are friendly and helpful. Overall, a decent hotel to which we will return. Recommended

I have stopped in numerous Village hotels over the years and all over the UK, and we see booking here as a bit of a treat.

However this visit was our worst village experience. The hotel is clean and tidy, the leisure facilities are as usual great, however the bar and restaurant experience let us down and the fact a loud drunken wedding party was falling all over the place was not the best view for our 6 year old to have see while we bustled through them to get to the toilets and lift.

The bar plays constant football, at such a volume that you either had to watch it or leave, and there was no break in it so we avoided it totally, even for food. The italian restaurant menu was poor, too posh for such a place, when asked for garlic it was slices of garlic cloves, even the kids meals, each course took over 40 minutes to arrive and we spent over 2 hours in there for an overpriced meal, which was bland and not very good.

And as the wedding party were spilling out all over the foyer, there were no seats to sit in other than in your room, which was one chair for four of us as the sofa was a sofa bed.

We are more disappointed because we have had nothing but good things to say about the Village hotels over the years and this is the first time we feel let down.

Having visited the De Vere Village in Tingley, thought we would try this one out.

For me and my wife there is no comparison between the two, the Headingley De Vere really needs updating, while Tingley is modern, very clean with excellent service, the Headingley De Vere feels old and more like a Premier Inn.

The lady on reception was very welcoming and Headingley as a location is good for Leeds city centre but overall it just really needs updating, especially the very dated rooms.

I have stayed in this hotel twice in the past two months. The hotel itself is nice and clean, The staff are friendly, the pub and leisure facilities are good. However the rooms are very dated which is a shame. If the rooms were better I would rate this hotel as 'Very Good' The room I stayed in the first time and the room my friends stayed in was quite large (Room 102) and this made up for the decor however my room on my second stay was very small (Room 105). No complaints other than this. I will return again. If you stay in this hotel Do not eat at Vinny and Vito's restaurant (Worst Italian I have ever been too) eat out or at the victory pub.

Room Tip: Room 102 is huge with a table and sofa! Rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter

Just stayed here on a Friday night! On check in there was a problem with " getting us on the system" so we were asked if we'd mind waiting and having a complimentary coffee( Starbucks) whilst they sorted it out .
The hotel has obviously been added to over the years and the room numbers and different floor levels !
are intriguing - we were in room 275 and went up to floor 1 walked along various corridors then got a lift up to level 3 for our room- be difficult to find I'd suspect if you were worse for wear with alcohol , the room was fine if a little dated and later I would have a good nights sleep.
Wee took full advantage of the leisure facilities pool sauna steam room! There is a gym for the fit!
We ate in The hotel restaurant Vinny & Vito and I have to say the service was excellant! The menu isn't vast but everything we had was delicious and very well cooked. I had the burger but could only manage half and my starter of Brocoli and Stilton soup was possibly the best I've had.
We finished our night in the on sight Victory Pub and even took part in Play Your Cards Right- and lost!
Breakfast in the morning was delicious and nothing was too much trouble for the staff- the hot food was constantly getting replenished!
All in all a very pleasure able stay- and very reasonably priced if you're booking in advance!
I did notice a couple of people in the foyer with dogs which is not really my thing but I would assume ( or hope) there are specific rooms for that .

Stayed here with family. Nice enough hotel that I guess is being refurbed however staff attention is pretty poor. Reception on check in was busy with only one team member on duty, same again on checking out. Staff member even popped his head out of the office, saw the queue and went back inside!
Decided to stay in for dinner having seen the restaurant menu in the room. Restaurant wasn't busy and we were given table d'hôtel menus that featured just three starters and three mains. I enquired about the menu that we saw in the rooms and that was displayed in entrance to restaurant. Reply was that stocks of food between Xmas and new year were running low, hence the reduced menu! Crazy.!...if you have customers willing to pay £18 for a steak why give them a menu with flatbreads and burgers? Attention of serving staff was poor, speed of food coming out of kitchen was slow and food was unseasoned. My guess for the reduced menus was that the head chef was off and didn't trust the rest of his brigade with the full menu! Staff seemed to go out of there way not to give eye contact in case you wanted something! Spend lots of time waiting to ask for extra drinks, cutlery, napkins, etc etc.
Breakfast was equally mediocre.......all the cold food is crammed in the corner so you have to queue even when there is just one person ahead of you.
On the plus side.......the pool is ace!
Suggest some staff training in basics of service and customers needs is required.

Room Tip: All found floor public areas are refurbished and not sure this has happened upstairs as rooms esp en...
