My husband and I booked an overnight stay at the Butlers hotel and thought we'd stepped back in time. Our bedroom was dark, dingy, dusty, tired and in desperate need of decoration. The breakfast was very nice, although the chef was scruffy (had no uniform on) and seemed to be on a go slow! Bread was provided to make toast but it ran out and no-one came to stock up or to see if anyone needed anything. The manager occasionally popped his head round the kitchen door but we did not actually see him until we were leaving. On the whole the hotel was very poorly and unprofessionally run and we were extremely disappointed.

Bein brutally honest, this hotel is never somewhere I'd choose to stay regardless of the price (it was still £60- we had the Bronte room). The room has a 4 poster bed, which was clean an comfortable. It was quirky with a bookshelf and plenty of interesting pictures. It was very small with just enough room to get around the bed but with no surface room to put things like a makeup bag, etc. the bedwas extremely squeaky and the walls are paper thin. It did however have a good wardrobe, small flat screen tv, an ironing board, iron and hair dryer. The bathroom had clean towels but the floor and toilet seat were cracked. The shower plug hole was blocked up with hair and goodness knows what else. The bathroom and the room was very dark. Weatayed over so we could attend a wedding reception a few minutes walk away. When we returned at around 1am we would not have been able to get in ha it not been for a couple of guests who helpfully opened the door for us. Later on in the middle of the night we were woken by an unfortunate guest hammering on the door to be let in. The breakfast the next morning was the best thing about the hotel (ignoring the fact that the mushrooms were canned). Overall, I coped but haven't been to such a poor hotel for many years.

We stayed at this hotel and were welcomed by the manager on what was abusy jubilee weekend. The hotel was compact and the room was small but cosy, however the manger made us welcome with repeated games of pool which he paid for! The bar was miniscule and the drinks were expensive. The following morning we didn,t stay for breakfast as we could not find anyone at reception to ask about it. Overall some where to lay your head but not for the long haul.

Room Tip: Rooms at back are quieter as less traffic noise

Paid £29 for a Groupon voucher for an overnight stay at The Butlers and went there with very low expectations. We were very pleasantly surprised. Admittedly the bathroom was in need of refurbishment but the pictures on the website were a very good representations of vthe cosy themed rooms. The service was excellent and the breakfast beautifully cooked and pleasantly served. Would definitely stay there again if in the area, VERY convenient for Headingly stadium.
If you want the Hilton, give this place a miss but if you're looking for value for money and well cooked food......this is it!

Stayed here last night as a last min thing.I recall staying here around 15 years ago when it was an ok place to stay.I must say it looks just like it did then but very tired. The Butlers has now Joined the Hotel next door the Boundary and has been knocked through into one.
I did not arrive until late 11.20pm and the man on reception told me he had given me one of the better rooms Whitby Room and advised the bar was open until 12 so i quickly dropped of my bag and told him i would be back in 10 mins as i wanted to pop out to the shop down the road that also closed at 12pm.
i arrived back at 11.45 to find the front door locked and bar closed this surprised me as i only told him 10 mins before. In addition there is a big sign above the front door saying it will be locked at 12pm and entrance is via another door key coded.
I went to my room to shower and rest for the evening the room is a nice size for a single with desk for laptop and wall mounted flat screen TV.
The room was very dusty and the worktop sticky from the last occupant carpets were dirty and could do with a good clean.
The bath had several chunks missing and a few cracks here and there but i gave it a miss to use the shower unfortunately both the hot and cold tap have to bee fully open to get enough pressure so the water was luke warm.
Bath mat had a hole in and was thread bear but the towels were clean and smelled nice and fresh as did the bedding. The bed was comfortable and i managed a reasonable nights sleep.
In the morning i opted to try the breakfast for an additional £3.50..Hot freshly cooked Egg,bacon, sausage, fresh mushrooms, beans, hash brown and half tomato.Good value although i could not see any coffee so had a cup of tea.

Stayed as part of a group with a groupon deal. The rooms were clean and comfortable with tea, coffee, fridge and microwave in the room. Bathroom was clean with plenty of hot water and towels. The bed was spacious and comfortable and all of us slept well. Breakfast was great with toast, cereals and a full English. The location was good right next door to the cricket ground and a short bus or taxi journey into the city centre.
The best part of our stay was the service. From the moment we arrived, nothing was too much trouble. All the staff were welcoming and friendly with a particular mention to the young man who was on reception, behind the bar and serving breakfast! The staff were good humoured throughout our stay even when we managed to accidently set the fire alarm off!
A perfect place to stay if you want a good place to sleep and a filling breakfast in the morning
