I booked this hotel online at short notice and paid via the site I used. On arrival they wouldn't let me have the room without paying. Even after showing her the payment online.

The room was a decent size but there was a distinct smell of damp.

The desk was made of an old kitchen worktop which was sagging. When I pulled the chair out, which was a little rickety, a peach pit and empty sachet were on the seat. Not exactly clean.

The fire alarm sounded around 9.45pm and I entered the reception. Most of the guests were milling around and someone had to ask the staff if we should leave. We all did and stood in the pouring rain. The staff were all but useless and god forbid what would happen if a fire did break out. It appears someone had been smoking upstairs.

No apology for any of this.

I'm also convinced I got bitten whilst there too.

I wouldn't recommend this place.

Dear Customer in response to your review,

When booking via the site you used, you do not pay for the booking, your credit card details are simply passed onto the hotel where you pay on arrival. This was explained to you.

In regards to a damp smell in the room i would contest that as there is no damp problem within the hotel what so ever, this is slander.

In regards to the fire alarm going off, this occurs when somebody smokes in the bedroom which is not permitted and there are signs everywhere. When this happens you have to leave the building and cant re-enter till we have found the source of the smoke.I am sorry it was raining. It happens rarely and there is little we can do about it.

In regard to a bit marks this must be from your own clothes since there is no bug problem in the hotel.

The desk in the rooms are not sagging nor made from old kitchen worktops again slander.

Arrived 10-30 am Sat. for a Sat. night stay. My room was available and perfect for my needs. Very helpful staff. Very helpful regarding buses in to city centre. All very clean and tidy, would certainly go again.

Stayed for one night for our daughters graduation. We booked two rooms - a double and a single. They were both very clean and comfortable. Our double had only been equipped with one cup and saucer and set of towels but this was soon corrected once we had informed the staff. Our breakfast was very good value for money and also very quick despite the breakfast room being quite busy. A very good location for the university and a very good price for somewhere to stay.

Everything was clean and manager was very helpful. Perhaps some upgrade to more modern furnishings would be good, but for the price it is a very, very good value. Wifi access works very good as well, which is a bonus if you like to stay connected with the world at large. Lobby has a direct phone line to the taxi company.

The room was comfortable and perfectly adequate, but not a luxury stay, it needs a modern refresh. Found the hotel to be clean, manager was very helpful (suggested very good place to eat actually) and very nice to talk to, rooms were good.

We stayed one night at the Ascot Grange while stopping at Leeds. The room was comfortable and perfectly adequate, but not a luxury stay, it needs a modern refresh.

Overall Good value and had a good sleep.

Room Tip: skinny staircase to get to 2nd floor rooms. Difficult with suitcases.
