“comfortable house, beautiful garden, pleasant village, not far from the sea”
Reviewed 11 July 2013 for a stay in July 2013

In house Vinka we spent very really good time. The photos on the Vinka house webpage were very promising, but the reality is even better! Stone house - really comfortable for 6 persons, and in addition very beautiful patio and big garden for own use; beautiful surroundings including really old willage (somme houses dated on XV Century), gardens, pine forest, olive groves, vineyards.
The host - Zarko, as well as his family, is very friendly but not imposing. Zarko speaks English well; he gave us some good advices about possible activities and attractions (nothing strange as he works in Tourist board in Stari Grad).

Important remarks:
- unguarded beaches in Zukova bay are extremely beautiful, howerver, it takes about 10-12 minutes to get there (a path across forest and shrubs); there are numerous suitable places for sunbathing, swimming, abnd even for fishing; we met at maximum 20-30 people per 1km of the border line
- Stari Grad - just 2 kilometres from Rudine, but I strongly recommend a car, as Rudine is situted nearly 100 m above sea level
- Kabal Peninsula is extremely beautiful, isolated, green area, but the distances are rather big (you rather need a bike)
- in Rudine there are no shops, no konobas, no night life; all the attractions are availble in Stari Grad

We spent five lovely days here.
We arrived really late (past midnight) in what seemed a deserted village at the end of the world :) Only the next morning did we realize that the location was perfect: quiet, private villa with a large garden, barbeque, wifi, even sea view, in the middle of a small remote village consisting of very old stone houses.
Zarko was really kind and provided us with lots of information about the island. I must admit we were lucky since he works at the tourist information point in Stari Grad :)
Zukova bay is relatively close to the village (however the walk seemed more than 500m) and worth visiting.
For visiting other parts of the island (like Hvar town, Jelsa), I recommend hiring a car, unless you have one or you are fit and feel like trekking. Most of the beaches on the island are with pebbles or flat stones.
P.S.: Besides the harmless geckos hanging on the walls and the annoying mosquitos, we once spotted a snake in the garden (60-80 cm long I'd say). We've seen it only once, so maybe this was an unfortunate encounter.
