“WORST HOTEL I HAVE EVER BEEN TO”
Reviewed 14 August 2014 via mobile

Where do I start... Passed the Hotel and got lost straight away due to the fact that there was no clear signs pointing us to the wright direction. Extremely rude staff. I've had better welcomes at camping grounds.
No concierge (or offer to help with bags)

Place is falling apart. Room smells like old people. The hotel in general smells like a hospital with a dash of death/decomposition.

The rooms aren't cleaned properly there was still urine and a dark brown, thick layer of grime in the toilet and kids toys that the cleaner didn't notice from the last customers.

Dinner was said to be traditional hungarian food. Other than fatty meat swimming in mush, over cooked side dishes and 3 days old salad( when you can see that the apple slices have turned brown... You have a HUGE PROBLEM) there
was nothing else on offer. Now, I know hungarian, I breathe hungarian, I cook hungarian, but this disgraceful effort had absolutely nothing to do with it!!!

The place is in utter disarray, after realising that the food might actually make me sick, my partner also picked up on the fact the the floor board were completely risen in a huge patch and discoloured( red, brown, green) Not to mention the flies which we're surrounding our table like there was something decomposed. The bottle of water I also asked for came with a grate amount of dust.

I am more than disappointed I am truly embarrassed, because I am hungarian and Hunguest Hotel Palace is a disgrace to our Nation. The palace itself is beautiful on the outside and the surrounding areas are truly breathtaking.

Whoever you may be, I ask you kindly to do yourself a favour and do not ruin your amazing holiday in my beautiful Country by stay at Hunguest Hotel Palace.

Ps: I have never wrote a review about anything, but throughout my stay I have had to hold back tears. This way I know I have done the wright thing by sharing my terrible experience.

Perfect place to recover and rest in north east Hungary. Beautiful nature, wonderful people. Professional and friendly staff. Historical place beautifully preserved. Don't miss the ride on the little train in the forest.

Room Tip: For those who like nature and need a few days to recover from their daily stress. Don't miss the...

A remarkable place--a 1930s castle-like building renovated to 4-star comfort, in beautiful natural surroundings. There are many possible activities, making it a great place for families (though we didn't see many there): swimming (indoor), spa, bowling, darts, caves, narrow gauge train, hiking, rowboats, climbing the tower in the hotel. Excellent wifi, with both indoor and outdoor areas to use it. Excellent staff. Dining hall (dark wood, chandeliers) offers very good and varied buffet and even live music...go for the demi-pension option.

Directions on hotel site for public transport are not entirely accurate due to work on the #1 tram line. From Budapest take a train to Miskolc (2 hours, several a day). Outside train station buy bus tickets (small building in bus stop area) to Lillafured (600 HUF) and take bus #1 to the end and then change to bus #5 or #15. Watch for the stop that says "Palota" followed by a few letters on it--you will see the hotel nearby. It is a stop or two BEFORE Lillafured. If #5 bus, cross the street and turn left to walk to the narrow gauge train station, go down the steps to reach the walkway around the hotel. Oddly there are no signs, but the towering hotel is quite obvious.

Room Tip: You can't go wrong--don't worry about it.

My family spent here in the last 10 years several weekends. The hotel has unique furniture and great interiors. Our children loves it! Some parts of our favourite movie was filmed here (Magyar vándor - The Hungarian Strayer).
Park is beautiful in autumn and winter. The new wellness area is quiet and has high quality.

The Palota is a beautiful place with amazing landscape. Lillafüred is a small town with best places. The Hotel's surroundings are nice, fabulous with cave, forest railway, trout restaurant & ranch, zoo, hike and patshs, a lot of photographic topics.

The hotel is elegant, reputable, prestigious. This is a real hotel in the XXI. century. The staff is kind, polite and attentive, friendly. The meal is high quality, delicious, manifold. The room is clean, it's ok. The minibar and restaurant's drinks are expensive.

The SPA is poor, not too best. My opinion: This SPA is unworthy to the Palota. The SPA is in the basement, without natural light. The wellness's chief lady is very unfriendly and inflexible.

This gem was built for the high society in 1929. The idea was to entertain the aristocrats and create a meeting place for the leaders of Hungary before the WWII era. During the war it served as a hospital.
The building was meticulously restored and preserved in it's original glamor. There is a "wellness" center under the hotel, consisting thermal baths and numerous saunas with resting areas.
The hotel overlooks the Hamori lake that surrounded by a lush forest with hiking trails.
Near the hotel is a waterfall that visible from each well kept terraces and gardens.
There is a small museum and a look-out on the top of the tower. You can ask for the key from the reception.
We had a suite on the second floor, overlooking the waterfall and the lake. It had a small front room and a bed-room. The bathroom had travertine tiles and granite counter top.
The bedroom had two twin beds, but with a thick mattress cover on the top, so we didn't feel the center. It was actually very comfortable.
They provide bathrobes and slippers for the wellness area.
Breakfast is included. Our room-package had the dinner covered as well. It was buffet style dining, with a lot of selection and gourmet choices. We loved the soups and hungarian dishes, but every dish was exceptional.
The check in was fast. Staff was always very helpful and polite.

The free Wi-Fi signal was strong.
The spa is really nice. I loved the saunas and jet baths. I recommend the facial and the massage that they provide.

Room Tip: The best view is from room #328 and the room under it (that was not #228, tho #228 is not bad either...

We had the VIP room booked for 2 nights and it was excellent! Staff and food were nice. The only down part was the hotels main restaurant on the basement floor, my wife her Pork and mushrooms were not the ones said on the card.

All in all a pleasant experience.
