My Wife and myself sent there 2 days. The location is perfect, but the park is not well kept. Some areas are untidy.
The breakfast and the meal is perfect, but the Á la carte menu is very expensive (one beer was 990 HUF, and the tapping quality was low, also they are charging for their own mineral water originating from the hotel what i will fussy).
As we see the Hotel is living from the good reputation collected in the last years (all diploma seen at the reception are from 2010-2012).
The value of the hotel is not so high. For this money we expected a little higher quality.

My girlfriend and I were there for a relaxing wekend. From our home in Vienna, it is just about 1,5 hours per car. The manor house hotel is in a remote location in Hungary, but there are many opportunities within the hotel and its garden so there was no need for us to leave the hotel. In the park around the Hotel, we had a relaxing walk after enjoing the spa. The spa is one of the highlights of the Hotel. A really huge pool, sauna, steam bath and relaxing areas. All in good condition and very relaxing. My girlfriend and I loved it. Atmosphere of the hotel is great. We felt like the royal family there. Staff also very friendly and helpful. In the evening, hotel guests were meeting at the bar, great atmosphere, People could dance or just sit, watch and have a drink. Food was good, breakfast excellent for our taste (try the smoked cheese, I loved it). Rooms were beautiful, spaceous, modern and clean. On the second day, we went to the hot springs in Bükfürdo. About 20 minutes by car, very healthy water with different Minerals. I really recommend this Hotel!

Stayed here a few times now and it has to be a favourite. Staff are truly excellent and natural, food is well prepared and thoughtful and the rooms just full of comfort without the chintz that so many hotels insist on nowadays. Pure peace and relaxation. The hotel does now need a bit of refurbishment but that is the sign of popularity and I am sure it will be done. I`ll be back again thats for sure. Why 5 stars? Because they try and they listen and they always take note, thats why.

The Szidonia Manor House is in a lovely old building in extensive grounds. Our room in the main house was large with worn furnishings, stuffed down the end of a long a corridor with a view of a lot of bushes. Comfortable enough, however. Breakfast was a good spread although without any choice of fresh hot options; just some lukewarm eggs, sausages etc prepared hours earlier. The quality of food at dinner was reasonable but not such as to warrant the inflated prices charged.
Before we arrived we had exchanged emails receiving prompt, helpful responses so the don’t care service we encountered came as real surprise. No one offered to help with our bags and restaurant service was slow and either patronising or surly. On the first night we waited 40 minutes for our dessert whilst on the second we waited an hour for our main courses. No word of an apology. I should also point out that they were not busy with only 4 tables taken on the second night.
We had arranged to pay the bill the night before we left as we had to make an early start. I’m glad we did as the bill was full of errors (in their favour of course!) and it took over an hour of arguing between us, the receptionist and the waiter from the restaurant to resolve. Of course a good manager would have stepped in long before this but I rather suspect there is no manager on site. This would explain many of the problems at the Szidonia. The waiters in the restaurant do as they choose. If you order anything less than a straightforward bottle of wine there you are advised to be aware of just how much the 0.10 L actually amounts to and to ensure you actually get what you ask for. They charged us double because they said they had brought us more than 0.10 L. We had not asked for it and omitted to come prepared with a fluid measuring jug!!
If you find yourself visiting this part of Hungary I advise you to stay somewhere else (anywhere!). We couldn’t wait to leave.

We booked two nights at Szidonia Manor House during our honeymoon in Central Europe for the possibility of a romantic time in a quiet sophisticated castle setting. It did not live up to our expectations: we speculate that it was once a quite nice place to stay but is now in substantial decline, or that it will someday be a quite nice place to stay but the proper investment in the grounds and facilities as yet to take place (or both).

Our room was in the main manor. It was clean but nothing special. Then again, it wasn't the room that we were most hopeful for. We were looking forward to lovely, relaxing grounds and handsome old interiors. Alas, the garden was unkempt (with a fetid old fountain in the center, no doubt part of the explanation for the mosquito problem) and the wood paneled and carpeted main public rooms were dirty, scuffed, and chipped. The other outdoor areas—the outdoor pool, the park paths, the deck—were each adequate but never attractive or dazzling. The overall impression is one of a tired facility with a staff that is either overworked or uncaring. The nicest (most recently renovated?) part of the manor is the indoor pool area. We found lounging there to be reasonably relaxing, but there was no shortage of children being loud and running around if that sort of thing bothers you.

The food wasn't awful, but it wasn't very good either. Guests queue up for the very-buffet quality fare for breakfast and dinner.

Overall, we would not recommend Szidonia Manor House.

ps. Some of the photographs might lead you to believe that the Manor is in isolated, wooded seclusion. Not so. It is as the end of a slightly depressing avenue in a not very attractive town. Nor does that town have any amenities to speak of (we drove 12k away to find a restaurant in order to avoid the dim prospects of lunch at Szidonia).

We had a reservation for a suite in the main building for 248EUR/night, yet we were given a mansard room in which except for a narrow strip in the middle of the room one could not walk erect because the ceiling was so low (I'm 165cms, 5'4"), it could only be approached on a chain of two long, narrow and dark staircases, was right below the second story roof with no air/con in the summer heat with unbearable heat in the room, had only one tiny window in one of the corners of the bedroom and a similarly tiny one in the bathroom (tiny like a doggy entrance on a main door),had only a shower instead of a regular bathroom, was in the furthest separate building instead of the main building that we have reserved, and had simple, outdated and used-looking furniture in it.
The room was obviously not designed to be a hotel room let alone a suite, rather a room for large events when they run out of all rooms that could be sold as hotel rooms, or a room for personnel.
When referring to and showing our reservation that was made via booking.com and that we would like what we reserved, a suite in the main building their reply was that it was booking.com and not them confirming our reservation so they are not responsible for what booking.com writes us back as a confirmation!, that it is a nice room, and that they anyhow have no room in the main building.
I have been there before so I told them that I know that they definitely have decent, very nice rooms in the main building and that we would not be willing to take this room--they were still claiming it was a nice room but had no objection (or surprise) when we declined to accept it.

Further addition was that we had half-pension reserved and when I called to enquire about till when dinner is served, they asked me when we'd be arriving and said that at our planned arrival at 8:30 pm we could not take warm dinner only a cold meal in our room. Upon arrival they denied having told me that and claimed how much they were waiting for us to be able to serve us a hot meal just right until twenty mins before our actual arrival...

Years ago it used to be a nice hotel with decent staff, now it was a nightmare and if that had not been enough they were lieing all the time and did not even apologize.

While I do believe they still have nice rooms in the main building and surely can provide good service if they want to, and if the amenities had been kept us as they used to be ten years ago then they are nice, however I would advise all to take some precaution: If a stranger, esp a foreigner arrives very late at an unknown remote place, it is highly unlikely the person would deny whatever room he/she is given and I think they were trying to take advantage of it.
(they couldn't know we both knew that area very well so could easily find a different place, a decent hotel even at night...but had it been somewhere else that is unknown to us, we would have been forced to take it--and that attitude of theirs was what disturbed me the most) I should only hope that they improve their attitude, services, and will once again be what they used to be a decade ago.
