“Great - just a few hints here”
Reviewed 7 September 2012

We stayed in ‘Mimosa 1’ and it was simple yet lovely. The room is not stylish but it contains everything one couple needs for a one-week stay. Views of the mountains are wonderful from the balcony (it is the best private balcony in the property) or any part of the common grounds such as the pool. The pool and garden are beautifully tendered to. Hosts are warm and very friendly.

However, I might just mention the following…

There are separate costs on top of almost everything. These are not what one would consider ‘extras’ but things that would normally be included/expected for a lease arrangement.

And there are an overwhelming number of rules – demanded in any number of ways - on outdoor notices, painted tiles, laminated notes in your bathroom etc. For example, you must strip your bed before checking out or you’ll receive a 100 Euro fine. You must remove any rubbish from your outdoor table or receive a 100 fine Euro. A number of others that seem quite odd.

Perhaps they’ve had some guests who have stolen from them or abused their hospitality in the past?

I do not wish to put anyone off from staying here - the property is exceptionally maintained with wonderful views, and the hosts are very lovely. I simply hope gives you something to consider/prepare for.

We have just returned from a week in Residence Celeste in Mezzegra. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and the views are outstanding. We stayed in the Angeli appartment so had two cherubs on the ceiling of the children's room! My 11 year old still makes reference to the naked babies he had to look at for a week! Yes, they do have a lot of rules and regulations, but we weren't bothered by this at all. It just means that the place is kept in pristine condition and that the type of holiday maker who choses to go there is willing to keep it in as good condition as they found it. Even though there were other families with children in the block, it was still so quiet. I think there are only 9 or so appartments in total so it is very peaceful. With regard to the location, for us, this was the only downside. It was quite remote. We were prepared for the steep hill and steps down to the lake front but we thought there would possibly have been more to do when we got there. There were a only couple of bars which we wouldn't have chosen to eat in. As a result we tended to take the car and go to Menaggio, Tremezzo or one of the other local villages to eat. I certainly would not want to be here without a car. If you want to do all the cooking yourselves, the car is also necessary to get all the groceries up that very steep hill. We loved it here and would recommend it. Just be aware that you will not be within easy walking distance of restaurants, bars or atractions. By the way, the house where Benito Mussolini was shot is just down the street!

Room Tip: Some rooms do not have a balcony, so make sure to ask when you are booking. The balcony is essential...

A beautiful, quiet spot with amazing views of Lake Como yet within walking distance to shops, cafes and good restaurants.

Fabia who runs the establishment is extremely helpful and speaks English. The apartment and pool area were spotless.

We travelled with a large party of family & friends to attend a wedding, with a variety of different age groups- from babies to senior citizens. The apartments were very clean and comfortable overlooking the pool and with fantastic views. We stayed in Dependence Emy, a larger self contained 3 bedroom apartment situated 2 mins from the main apartment block. This again was very clean and spacious with ample faciliites (although we only had a travel sized kettle, where smaller apartments had larger ones!) The only down side as mentioned in a previous review is the hilly location, as a self-catering property it was a steep climb down to the local super-market, restaurants etc and seemed even longer on a hot day. In hindsight, car- hire would have been a must even just to do a bigger shop to stock up. Having a senior-citizen with us, it was very difficult walking to and from the restaurants- as hills are cobbled and steep (again difficult with buggies/pushchairs ) -although alternative longer walking routes which were slightly better paved were around . Also be aware that everybody seems to own a dog- which did get noisy at times!! and there are several churches around the property with frequent ringing of bells. Overall though a fantastic base for touring the area,(use the water taxis) and great value for money. Good walking shoes needed-no high heels!!

We've just spent a week here and had a great time. The apartment was spotlessly clean and well appointed. The view from the balcony was stunning. The swimming pool was a lovely temperature and had the same stunning view over the lake. The only down side we found was the hike to restaurants. The apartments are on the 'Greenway' a marked trail along the lake which is easy to follow but very hilly. It was a downhill cobbled hike of about 10 minutes to the closest restaurant and about 20 minutes to Tremezzo, it took considerably longer to hike back up. We took a taxi from the Red and White Wine bar in Tremezzo back up the hill, a distance of 1.4miles, it cost 15euros. On the whole a lovely place.
