We've stayed at Sport Hotel Camparient many times because of the situation - just about perfection. The views from the panoramic restaurant windows is totally stunning (every time you see it).
There are no cars in Alpe di Mera as there is no access. The only way up is chairlift. If you arrive at night then the hotel send piste-machines down the mountain to collect you with trailers for your luggage - awesome - like a scene taken from a Bond movie.
The food is quite good and is certainly varied. It's a very local style in the sense that if you are unfamiliar with the style, then British patrons (especially children) may not get what they expect.
The owners are a very welcoming family. Roberto and Marina (Mum and Dad) generally run the place with help from their two sons, a daughter and a few other usually 'smiley' assistants.
Pre-dinner canapés with a local (extra dry) Prosecco are usually served in the main bar. There is a basement disco with a bar and well-equipped sound system and danvce floor - very popular with the youngsters in the evenings.
As Camparient is the only hotel on the mountain, there is little in the way of entertainment other than table-tennis, sky TV, and a games console - oh, I nearly forgot... did I mention the bar?!
Ski to and from the ski room. Ski and boot hire is usually arranged in the hotel as are ski lift passes. Instructors are available to suit all abilities, both ski and snowboard. Generally, lift queues are virtually non-existent; except perhaps at the weekend during the holidays when the locals visit the resort.
All in all, it's a fabulous if not almost unique experience and ideal for children as it's as safe as a ski resort could ever be (no traffic).
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Imagine a vacation in the mountains, a unique and peaceful place among the Italian Alps. Our lodge is located in a very impressive, yet off-the-beaten-path, peak: the Alpe di Mera in Valsesia, in one of the valleys of Mount Rosa. We strongly believe in the authenticity of this little corner of paradise and we are proud to offer unforgettable moments to loyal customers who return each year to visit us.
