“Superb hotel and setting”
Reviewed 19 July 2014 via mobile

Stayed at Posada la Plaza in June 2014 as part of an Explore walking holiday. Really beautiful setting and great hotel base for our daily walks. Gustavo and his staff make you feel like part of his family. The food at his restaurant is also fantastic. The rooms have air con there is free wi fi and there is a pool and jacuzzi there if you want to use them. Little things like having an honesty bar for beer and snacks make this a special place. Highly recommended as are Explore and Mick as our walking guide.

We stayed 9 days at Posada la Plaza and enjoyed it very much! Our room was located at the villa which is a little bit outside, with a pool. The rooms are nice and clean. The restaurant is very good, food is delicious (lecker!). We recommend very much the hiking tours at Canillas de Albaida and to visit other white villages near Canillas or make a wine tasting!

OK, so I didn't stay in the hotel - I was staying in Competa, just 2 wonderful miles away... But we came here for dinner and boy was I impressed. I have had lunch here before a couple of times but never dinner. This was a step up for anything I have had here previously. The setting is of course an amazing start. The little plaza is breathtaking. It turns out that it is the owners mum who looks after the 200 hanging baskets in the square... You could not wish for a better setting. OK, now to the food. I love my food, and this place did not disappoint. The black pudding starter was perfectly matched with the fruit and honey. The steak was the best I have had in a long time and as for desert... We had 4 different ones between us and each was better than the one before.
In short I was really impressed and can't wait to come back. Just make sure you arrive hungry!
Well done Gustavo and the wonderful Denisa. Thank you

The location is excellent. Very pretty building, with front rooms looking out on a charming square. The rooms are adequate, but an air extractor in the tiny bathrooms would be a great help. The smaller rooms lack storage space for clothes and personal effects.
The honesty bar is a great idea. The roof top sunbathing, jaccuzzi and sauna are adequate, though pretty basic.
As a hotel, the place lacks an area to sit, though I suppose you could always sit in the square in front, though in the shade in April it was a bit chilly!

Room Tip: Get a room at the front for a great view of an atmospheric town square. But it can get a bit noisy!

We stayed here on a walking holiday with Colletts 2 weeks ago and were so impressed with the enthusiastic care taken by the owner Gustavo to ensure all his customers had a wonderful time. The hotel is in a converted convent on one side of the village square with the bar and restaurant a few steps away on the opposite side. The square is tranquil and closed to traffic so you have to walk with your luggage through narrow lanes with beautiful white houses and balconies and door steps filled with flowers.
Our comfortable room was on the third floor with views towards the sea over the countryside and was kept impeccably clean each day. There is no lift.
Breakfast is typically continental - hot fresh bread, cereals, ham, cheese, coffee, tea and juice - served from 9am. We had wonderful "Spanish omelette" baguettes for lunch a couple of days (or you can go to the local shop who will make sandwiches while you wait) but it was the evening meals which were outstanding typical dishes from the region all served by Gustavo and his lovely wife that are unforgettable.
Being on the edge of a nature reserve with wonderful hikes straight from the door this is a perfect place to experience some early spring sunshine.

Room Tip: Room 3 overlooks the Plaza square and has amazing views

Visiting the white villages of Andalousia is a unique experience, and Posada la Plaza is a great place to do so. Gustavo, the owner, is indeed a great guy and the food at the restaurant is quite good.

Just go there before it becomes to touristy...

Only drawback, the taxis are a bit too expensive. If you go there between November and March, ask for an additional cover.

What a fabulous place to stay. We've spend here a week (Chrismas time). The food in Gustavo's restaurant is excellent. You won't find anything better in Competa or in Canillas. Outstanding place! Very friendly owner who will do everything to make your stay unforgettable. I'm already looking forward to my next stay.
