“A must for bee-keepers”
Review of Museo de la Miel

Museo de la Miel
Ranked #1 of 2 things to do in Colmenar
Attraction details
Reviewed 30 June 2013

This lovely little museum can be found in Colmenar, a small town in the mountains approx 30km from the City of Malaga.
Here you can can sample several varieties of local honey including, Thyme, Avocado, Eucalyptus and Chestnut .
The history of Beekeeping is portrayed on large screens, a short film and an exhibition of tools , hives and equipment used throughout the ages. The large scale honeycombs and beehives are
very interesting.
This thematic museum offers you a look at the world of beekeeping and stresses the importance of bees to society from when it originated in Egypt until the present day.
Well worth a visit. I am not a beekeeper and I enjoyed it.

Thank Patricia N

Small village museum about honey making with the opportunity to buy honey. Located in the centre of the village but on a very narrow street so park on one of the wider streets.

Tucked away up a small side street just beside a lovely fountain square near the centre of Colmena, we found the Museo de la miel (museum of honey).
The museum is a very interesting incite into the history and art of bee keeping. The visual exhibits and artefacts where very interesting and informative with plenty of interactive video displays (in English).
The staff made us very welcome and where happy to answer any questions (in English).
We learned about the production and amazing natural healing qualities of honey. We tasted some free samples of the many varieties of honey the area produces and from the little shop we bought some honey liqueur, a few hand made candles and some honey sweets to take home for the kids. We highly recommend a visit.

Colmenar is a pleasant village, and credit to the people for setting up a museum of honey, but it's really very unexciting. It's not free as another review suggests. There's a film of modest interest (maybe more so to children doing a project on honey), a few artefacts and a very small shop.
