We booked this with friends because we were looking for somewhere hidden away with a private pool but at the same time not a long drive from the airport. Well, we struck lucky with Casa Carrasco.
The house is an old farmhouse that has been nicely restored and quite quirky with two staircases and an old bread oven in the kitchen. Comfy beds, towels and beach towels were provided (saving valuable suitcase space!). Three bathrooms was a bit of a luxury and great to have a dishwasher but the best bit about the house was the view out over the valley. You arrive at the back of the house then turn the corner and Bam! The terraces lead down to the pool, all private and not overlooked. It was a perfect place to laze about with a pile of books in between day-trips to Granada and Cordoba while we took it in turn for cooking duties or watching house martins swoop down and drink from the pool.
The owners were great meeting us in Colmenar and taking us to the house. This was useful as the house is about 3 miles from the village, the last bit along a track, albeit decent quality. They were happy to chat and recommend places but left us in peace apart from pool cleaning. When we had trouble changing a gas bottle they drove over and cheerfully changed it for us. Great place have booked to come back again.
If you do go make sure you visit Malaga city. We finished our holiday with a couple of nights there – great place, nice laid back vibe and beautiful historic centre.
