I use to stop at this hotel on a regular basis when I was working back in the 90's so I thought that it would be a good overnight stop on our way to Slovenia. The hotel is much as I remembered it a very good village hotel with an excellent restaurant. The rooms and bathrooms are a good size and are spotlessly clean. The only negative was that the bathroom furniture was the original suite and really could do with updating.
The staff were absolutely brilliant and I really would recommend the restaurant the food was beautifully cooked and presented and the cost was extremely reasonable. To add a little flavour to the hotel, outside in the bar area the place was full of the locals drinking and playing domino's, so this hotel really is the hub of the village.
In fact we enjoyed our stay here so much that we came back for one night when returning to the UK.
If you are ever in this area south of Stuttgart I really do recommend this hotel to you.

This was a friendly hotel, the owner and staff were a joy to talk to and poke good English. Stayed in the block opposite the main hotel which was more like a travel lodge in its style, free use of the sauna and very secure. The lack of Tea or Coffee facilities in the rooms was a let down but the hotel food was great. There is a church a hundred meters away which tolled its bells through the night which were ok but if you want to sleep after 6am take some ear plugs as the bells ring for 3 minutes.
All in all an enjoyable stay for business visits

If it's a trip back in time you want, this is the place. Single bed rooms, real steel keys you leave at reception (which is rarely attended), food and wine your German grandmother used to enjoy.

There is even a prominently placed wood carving of Christ crucified in the lobby, to remind us not to sin. In our single beds. Which have a radio built in to the bedhead like in 1977.

The Sunday champagne (prosecco)  breakfast is a delight for lovers of salmon, mackerel, octopus, meat and cheese. Lunch was baked potatoes and overcooked veg to accompany your huge slab of roast meat and gravy. Make sure you have your chewin' dentures in, and tell those difficult vegetarians not to bother.

Wi-fi was expensive, and dropped out from time to time (meaning you have to type in the really long passwords again, and again). Broadband speed was OK.

The sauna was small and kind of tucked away next to a laundry in the basement of an adjacent building... But it did the job.

The place was clean, not too shabby, carpets, fixtures in good repair. Staff were helpful when you could find one of them. All they need is a cookbook printed after 1982 and free wi-fi for me to give it the thumbs up.

stayed for 5 nights in this hotel, service was good but the bedroom needed freshining up: there were tears in the duvet covers, bed very hard , sheets would have been white at some stage but alas now a pale shade of grey: also bathroom towels were very small & hard and again off white: But it was clean: The hotel closed its doors and ten o clock which we were made aware of but we returned one evening before 9.30pm & it was all closed down, could not get a cup of tea or anything else as the bar was all closed off: I wouldnt stay in this hotel again if I had a choice! It was not good value!

It's a fine hotel, but given it's location in small town Donzdorf, I would have expected to pay less.
That being said, Sam the propetier was very nice and breakfast was perfect. The bar was lively and Miriam and the rest of the staff were great.
