Just got back from a great holiday at the Lago Taurito. There was 7 in our party, 4 adults 3 children (14,11 & 10). The rooms were great, very spacious with alot more storage than we have experienced before, they were very clean although a little dated. The beds were fine and we all slept very well. If I was to have any critisim about the rooms it would be the lack of cups/glasses but we just got some plastic ones from the pool bar for juice/water. We wasn't bothered about plates cutlery etc as we don't go on holiday to cook! The hotel was obviuosly self catering at one time as the kitchen area is quite spacious with a full size fridge and microwave.
The pool is a fair size but there is a shortage of sunbeds. During our first week there was not so much of a problem getting a bed but this changed towards the end of the second week when some people felt the need to leave their towels on the beds for days. The waterpark is great and there are loads of sunbeds in there (you only pay for mats and parasols). The salt water was a bit of a shock to the kids at first but they soon got used to it and certainly didn't let it spoil the fun. The beach is lovely and very relaxing plenty of sunbeds down there too (9 euros for 2 beds and a parasol). They is also a fairly good selection of watersports down there.
We found the food to be great, always something different to have and plenty of it. Our kids did not have any problems finding stuff they liked and I wonder what peoples kids do eat when they say there was nothing here for them! It would have been nice to get a coffee in the restaurant after our meal but it was no big deal going to the bar for it instead.
The arena plaza where the evening entertainment is held is not big enough for all the hotels but we always managed to get a table and didn't find getting a drink a problem either. The bar staff are friendly and work hard but we usually get to know them a little better than we did here. I have to say that the entertainment was poor. It was much of a muchness everynight with the mini disco first then either a music quiz or a game of bingo followed by the 'show'......which usually consisted of the animation team dancing (which some of them are very good at) and miming to songs from musicals. There wasn't much audience participation and it was quite mind numbing. We went to the night club (La Bamba) several times as our kids loved it!
Outside of the hotel there is the lovely town of Puerto Mogan a few mins away in one direction and the not so lovely Puerto Rico in the other. We went to both a couple of times and much preferred Puerto Mogan. If your going to do any trips we would highly recommend the Canarian Combo (Jeep safari, Camel ride and boat trip), we all had great fun on this as we did at the Music Hall Tavern (don't think I have laughed so much in years). The kids also enjoyed Sioux City.
Overall this was a brilliant holiday especially for what we paid for it. It appears to me that the people who write negative reviews are expecting 5 star services at 3 star prices. I think we were lucky and the hotel was full of nice respectful polite people for the majority of the time we were there but that did change the last few days, but thats what you expect with budget holidays. We would definately recommend this hotel to anybody travelling with kids but would probably give it a miss if your not.
