We stayed here for 1 night and enjoyed our stay – the hotel is utterly charming, food is superb and the staff amiable. The attention to detail is striking – locally sourced milk in old fashion glass bottles at the breakfast table, fragrant hand made soap in the bathroom, fresh butter from Jersey, etc. And the surroundings are MAGNIFICENT. A couple small points: the hotel reception was closed in the afternoon until 6 PM (we were there on a Saturday). We were eager to check in, get into our room to change from wet clothes (having come straight from London and met friends at a nearby village) and rest after a long wet walk. Also, the breakfast on a Sunday stops at 9 AM, seems a bit early.

Just returned from a three night stay and the H & G certainly lived up to everything we had read about it before making our decision to stay there. The food was excellent but above all the staff were very friendly and efficient. Lots of very nice touches that collectively made the difference. Things like a flask of fresh milk to have with the tea in our room each day. Beautifully cooked breakfasts using local produce, including extra tea and toast. Home mad cakes and sweets. A delightful stay.

Spent a full week here recently and can honestly say that I found the place essentially beyond criticism.

Despite arriving on a Sunday evening (when they're closed) there was someone available to meet me; both proprietors and staff went out of their way to be helpful, informative and friendly.

My room could not be criticised and proved excellent value for money. Hot water (usually an issue in older properties) was freely available and depite being close to the road noise intrusion was minimal.

There is little that can be added to the comments already made by others regarding the calibre and variety of the food available here; despite being here for a week the constantly changing menu meant that there was no problem regarding choice. Quality was excellent.

A superb range of well kept cask beers.

A brilliant week, the next time I'm at the Fire Brigade College I'll be here too!

A great 'foodie' pub with lovely rooms. Run 2 brothers who really care about the details and take pride in what they do. Service personable, relaxed and friendly. Food very good with a focus on high quality local produce. Accommodation smashed expectations and fantastic value for money.

Would recommend and will be back :)

PS if Horse and Groom are reading this I have taken my room key with me by mistake and will pop in the post

Room Tip: Had a look in 3 rooms and all superb

A good halfway stop off the Fosse Way en route to Somerset. We arrived, managed to park out front as the rear car park was doubled up full. Lovely welcome. The five of us chose drinks at the bar and were seated in the restaurant. Food arrived soon after and was beautifully presented. The pudding menu was too tempting to pass up, especially creme brûlée. We finished with a coffee and were wished a safe journey onwards to Somerset. We'll return again if we're ever near that section of the Fosse.

Hidden surprise in the small village but very pretty location of Bourton on the Hill about 1.5 miles out of Moreton in Marsh is the Horse & Groom. Dedicated to good food backed up by the fact that customers were sat in their cars in the car park waiting for the pub to open! Very hard to get a reservation in the restaurant so grab one of the five tables in the bar or be disappointed. Limited choice displayed on the blackboard in the bar but quality rather than quantity is the standard here so they keep it simple and fresh. Great food and service with a relaxed atmosphere and definitely worth a ride out but don't forget - get there early!

I absolutely love this place. It never ever fails to please! The welcome you receive is consistently friendly and food and drink is always stunning. This is my place of choice to eat and drink at in the North Cotswolds. I also have the impression that despite the success that this pub enjoys it's owners are grounded and proud enough to mean that standards will not slip and it will just continue to go from strength to strength. Brilliant!
